Additive effect of factors related to assisted conception on the reduction of maternal serum pregnancy-associated plasma protein A concentrations and…
2013
Objective To analyze whether assisted conceptions need adjustments in first-trimester Down syndrome screening and why modifications in screening markers occur. Design Eleven-year cohort retrospective analysis. Setting Maternal-fetal medicine unit. Patient(s) Two thousand eleven naturally conceived normal singleton pregnancies and 2,042 normal singleton pregnancies achieved with assisted conception: 350 by IUI and 1,692 with IVF (n = 328) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI; n=1,364), using nondonor (n = 1,086) or donated ova (n = 606), with fresh (n = 1,432) or frozen (n = 260) embryos. Intervention(s) Comparison of ultrasound and biochemical markers of first-trimester Down syndrome s…
The electrocardiographic ‘triangular QRS-ST-T waveform’ pattern : a marker of severe haemodynamic compromise in Takotsubo syndrome : a case report
2020
Abstract Background Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is characterized by transient regional systolic dysfunction of the left ventricle, mimicking myocardial infarction. Although systolic left ventricular (LV) function normalizes in most cases, the outcome is not always favourable. Recently, a rare electrocardiogram (ECG) finding, lambda wave ST elevation or ‘triangular QRS-ST-T waveform’, was suggested as a possible marker of poor outcome in Takotsubo patients Case summary After a brief episode of chest pain and shortness of breath, a 67-year-old woman developed cardiogenic shock. Her resting ECG showed widespread ST elevations, which soon evolved into a pattern of triangular QRS-ST-T waveforms in …
An irregular atrial tachycardia : What is the underlying mechanism?

Given that electrocardiography (ECG)-gated CTA provides greater diagnostic safety, it may be assumed that interhospital referral…
Arrhythmieprofil und Herzfrequenz bei Hyperthyreose
2008
Arrhythmia profiles and heart rates, obtained by 24-hour ECG monitoring, were analysed in 48 patients with hyperthyroidism before (T3 level: 331 +/- 108 ng/100 ml, heart rate: 95 +/- 13/min), during (T3 level: 202 +/- 98 ng/100 ml, heart rate: 85 +/- 11/min) and after (T3 level: 149 +/- 41 ng/100 ml, heart rate: 79 +/- 9/min) antithyroid treatment. 50 persons in whom organic heart disease has been excluded by invasive and noninvasive tests served as controls. Only 6% of patients had repetitive ventricular arrhythmias (Lown group IV) before treatment (controls: 4%; P greater than 0.05). Supraventricular extrasystoles were common both before and after treatment (P less than 0.001), especially…
ICUD-EAU International Consultation on Bladder Cancer 2012: Non–Muscle-Invasive Urothelial Carcinoma of the Bladder
2012
Item does not contain fulltext CONTEXT: Our aim was to present a summary of the Second International Consultation on Bladder Cancer recommendations on the diagnosis and treatment options for non-muscle-invasive urothelial cancer of the bladder (NMIBC) using an evidence-based approach. OBJECTIVE: To critically review the recent data on the management of NMIBC to arrive at a general consensus. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: A detailed Medline analysis was performed for original articles addressing the treatment of NMIBC with regard to diagnosis, surgery, intravesical chemotherapy, and follow-up. Proceedings from the last 5 yr of major conferences were also searched. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: The major findi…
A tailored telephone and email based exercise intervention induced reductions in various measures of body composition in physically inactive adults: …
2018
Obesity prevalence has increased the past decades and has become a serious public health problem. The aim of this six-month assessor-blinded, parallel-group randomized controlled trial was to assess the effect of a tailored telephone and email-based exercise intervention on various measures of body composition in a sample of apparently healthy and physically inactive adults. A total of 111 volunteering adults (40–55 yr) in Southern Norway were randomly assigned to an intervention group (IG; n = 39) or a no-information control group (CG; n = 50), by random allocation numbering. The IG received feedback on their health-related physical fitness, information on guidelines and recommendations fo…
Time-frequency analysis for early classification of persistent and long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation
2016
This study aimed to assess an early classification of persistent and long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation patients by means of the time-frequency analysis of the surface ECG, which would allow electrophysiologists to choose the most suitable therapeutic approach to treat this arrhythmia. 140 consecutive unselected patients suffering from atrial fibrillation conformed the study population (84 persistent and 56 long-standing persistent). After ventricular activity cancellation, time-frequency analysis of the atrial activity was performed. Then, the study of phase variations along time for those frequency bands where the average power of atrial activity is concentrated, together with t…
ECG Analysis for Ventricular Fibrillation Detection Using a Boltzmann Network
2015
Arrhythmias consist on electrical alterations in the heart beat control. They can be identified by means of surface ECG leads. The main goal of this work is to provide a signal classification based on ECG signal waveform in the time-frequency domain especially targeted to Ventricular Fibrillation detection. The use of a classifier based on a Boltzmann network is proposed. However, a previous signal preprocessing is also required so that the Boltzmann network is fed with the appropriate data. In this case, an R-wave detector is used; after that, the Pseudo Wigner-Ville time-frequency distribution is obtained. This distribution is used to train and test the network, which handles it as an ima…
Sentinel-node biopsy in early stage ovarian cancer: a prospective multicentre study (SELLY)
2019
BackgroundSystematic para-aortic and bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy is included in the standard comprehensive surgical staging in presumed early epithelial ovarian cancer. No prospective randomized evidence suggests it has potential therapeutic value, and related morbidity is not negligible.Primary Objective(s)To assess sensitivity, safety, and feasibility of the sentinel lymph node technique in identifying the presence of lymph node metastases in patients with early stage epithelial ovarian cancer.Study HypothesisSentinel lymph node detection with indocyanine green can accurately predict nodal status in a cohort of women with early stage epithelial ovarian cancer.Trial DesignThe SELLY tr…
