2011

This paper provides an analysis of the relationship between educational policies of inclusion in Sub-Saharan Africa and school achievement in relation to learners with disabilities. The principle of equal opportunity at school requires the definition of a common framework and the establishment of systems to provide different responses to the difficulties and disadvantages of any kind. Inclusive education is presented as a form of education that could take into account the diverse needs of all learners. We present its different theoretical mechanisms and the limits of its effective implementation in the context of sub Saharan Africa. The results show that despite the existence of a national …

2004

This paper is looking at the feasibility of achieving the objective of education for all, one of the millennium objectives set up by the international community for the year 2015. Among numerous obstacles on the road map, the author is focusing on the budgetary constraint, which has aggravated significantly during the past decade. Actually the gap between least advanced countries and the rest of the world is widening, and not narrowing. Two remedies are proposed by the donor community for assisting the least developed countries to fill the gap : first a more efficient utilisation of resources presently allocated to education, and it seems that the efficiency reforms which are proposed are o…

Achieving universal primary education by 2015 - a chance for every child

2003

03046http://www-wds.worldbank.org/servlet/WDSContentServer/WDSP/IB/2003/09/06/000094946_03082204005065/Rendered/PDF/multi0page.pdf; A number of countries committed themselves to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), aimed at eradicating extreme poverty, and improving the welfare of people by the year 2015. The book assesses whether universal primary education can be achieved by 2015. The study focuses on the largest low-income countries that are furthest from the goal, home to about seventy five percent of the children out of school globally. By analyzing education policies, and financing patterns in relatively high-performing countries, the study identifies a new policy, and financing f…

Chance and Causality in Ageing and Longevity

2019

Longevity is not a matter of genes. This is the message that appeared last year in all the newspapers of the world, according to a study due to a joint venture between the statisticians of Ancestry and Calico Life Sciences that has dissected the genealogical trees of 400 million individuals, tracing back generations, and including dates of birth, death, places, and family ties. The genes would have little to do with longevity: in a percentage perhaps even less than 10% [1]. However, this extensive study has analysed the influence of genetics in terms of lifespan, but not in terms of longevity. Longevity may be defined in relative and absolute terms [2]. Longevity, indeed, may be considered …

2015

During the 2014 campaign exhaustive excavations of the early medieval mausoleum and monastic tombs situated between the mausoleum and the bell tower south of the abbey church of St Peter in Osor were completed. The results of the excavation of the interior of the reduced church revealed several floor levels that are contemporary to the Romanesque basilica, as well as the foundations of the Romanesque chancel screen situated in front of the north apse, and the presence of many burials. Some of them can be identified as privileged tombs, due to their position and their contents. Several floor levels corresponding to the phases anterior to the Romanesque church were also discovered, although i…
