Non-vanishing elements of finite groups

AbstractLet G be a finite group, and let Irr(G) denote the set of irreducible complex characters of G. An element x of G is non-vanishing if, for every χ in Irr(G), we have χ(x)≠0. We prove that, if x is a non-vanishing element of G and the order of x is coprime to 6, then x lies in the Fitting subgroup of G.

Abstract A classical theorem of John Thompson on character degrees states that if the degree of any complex irreducible character of a finite group G is 1 or divisible by a prime p, then G has a normal p-complement. In this paper, we consider fields of values of characters and prove some improvements of this result.

Abstract In this paper we describe the structure of finite groups whose real-valued nonlinear irreducible characters have all prime degree. The more general situation in which the real-valued irreducible characters of a finite group have all squarefree degree is also considered.
Powers of conjugacy classes in a finite groups

[EN] The aim of this paper is to show how the number of conjugacy classes appearing in the product of classes affect the structure of a finite group. The aim of this paper was to show several results about solvability concerning the case in which the power of a conjugacy class is a union of one or two conjugacy classes. Moreover, we show that the above conditions can be determined through the character table of the group.
Kurzweil-Henstock type integral in fourier analysis on compact zero-dimensional group

Abstract A Kurzweil-Henstock type integral defined on a zero-dimensional compact abelian group is studied and used to obtain a generalization of some results related to the problem of recovering, by generalized Fourier formulae, the coefficients of convergent series with respect to the characters of such a group.

Este trabalho examina os dispositivos linguísticos por meio dos quais Ésquilo conseguiu apresentar as personagens femininas da Oresteia. A análise é feita após um levantamento das seções recitativas de três tragédias; características fonéticas, morfológicas e sintáticas foram estudadas e comparadas com a linguagem dos personagens masculinos. Os resultados desta pesquisa se ajustam a outras tentativas precedentes de mostrar como a sociolinguística pode explicar o retrato formal dos personagens trágicos e cômicos. Supraspecific taxonomy of Palaearctic Platycleidini with unarmed prosternum: a morphological approach (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae, Tettigoniinae)

Authors analysed 33 supraspecific taxa of Palaearctic Platycleidini with unarmed prosternum, most of them hitherto considered genera or subgenera of Platycleis and Metrioptera. For each of them they give a short description of the characters revealing the correct classification of males and females. Then, they propose a more consistent classification, when both males and females of a supraspecific taxon are clearly distinct, they should be elevated to distinct genera.
