Spectra of the lightest baryons containing two heavy quarks in a potential model

2000

The spectra of baryons which include two heavy quarks can be treated as a two-body system, where the two heavy quarks constitute a bosonic diquark. We derive the effective potential between the light quark and the heavy diquark in terms of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. To obtain the spectra, several serious problems need to be solved: (1) the operator ordering, (2) the errors caused by the nonrelativistic expansion, (3) spin-spin coupling, and (4) the mixing between the scalar-diquark-baryon and vector-diquark-baryon. In this work we take reasonable approaches to deal with them.

Spectator Effects in the Heavy Quark Effective Theory

1996

We present a complete analysis of the Heavy Quark Effective Theory Lagrangian at order $1/m^2$ in the leading logarithmic approximation, including effects induced by spectator quarks. At this order new correction terms appear in the effective Lagrangian, as four-quark operators containing both heavy and light quark fields. We compute the coefficients of these operators to one-loop order and in the leading-logarithmic approximation. Two of them break the heavy quark spin symmetry and we estimate their contribution to the hyperfine splitting of the heavy mesons in the factorization approximation. We find that they make a positive contribution to the hyperfine splitting of about 10% of the mea…

Search for flavor changing neutral currents via quark–gluon couplings in single top quark production using 2.3 fb−1 of pp¯ collisions

2010

We present a search for flavor changing neutral currents via quark-gluon couplings in a sample of single top quark final states corresponding to 2.3 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events containing a single top quark candidates with an additional jet, and obtain separation between signal and background using Bayesian neural networks. We find consistency between background expectation and observed data, and set limits on flavor changing neutral current gluon couplings of the top quark to up quarks (tgu) and charm quarks (tgc). The cross section limits at the 95% C.L. are sigma(tgu) gu) gc) < 3.9 x 10(-3).

Improved bounds on heavy quark electric dipole moments

2020

New bounds on the electric dipole moment (EDM) of charm and bottom quarks are derived using the stringent limits on their chromo-EDMs. The new limits, $|d_c|<1.5\times10^{-21}\:e\,\text{cm}$ and $|d_b|< 1.2\times 10^{-20}\:e\,\text{cm}$, improve the previous ones by about three orders of magnitude. These indirect bounds have implications for different models of new physics, including two-Higgs-doublet, leptoquarks, and supersymmetry models.

Follow-up on non-leptonic Kaon decays at large $N_c$

2018

We report on the status of our dynamical simulations of a $SU (N_c )$ gauge theory with $N_c=3-6$ and $N_f =4$ fundamental fermions. These ensembles can be used to study the Large $N_c$ scaling of weak matrix elements in the GIM limit $m_c=m_u$, that might shed some light on the origin of the $\Delta I=1/2$ rule. We present preliminary results for the $K \to \pi$ matrix elements in the $N_c=3$ dynamical simulations, where we observe a significant effect of the quark loops that goes in the direction of enhancing the ratio of $A_0/A_2$ amplitudes. Finally, we present the relevant NLO Chiral Perturbation Theory predictions for the relation between $K \to \pi $ and $K \to \pi \pi$ amplitudes in…

Studies of Λcproduction in pp and p-Pb collisions 1 with ALICE at 2 the LHC

2017

A Large Ion Collider Experiment (ALICE) was designed to study the strongly interacting medium created in heavy-ion collisions at LHC energies, the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP). Heavy quarks (charm and beauty), produced in the early stages of the collisions, are among the most powerful probes to study this state of matter. To study the QGP effects, it is important to establish reference data, which is done by analysing results from pp and p-Pb collisions. We report on the charmed baryon Λc measurement in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV and in p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE experiment, through the reconstruction of the decay channels Λc + → p K S 0 and Λc + → pK − π + .

Prediction of NarrowN*andΛ*Resonances with Hidden Charm above 4 GeV

2010

Up to now, all established baryons can be ascribed into 3-quark (qqq) configurations [1], although some of them were suggested to be meson-baryon dynamically generated states [2–8] or states with large (qqqq¯ q) components [9–11]. A difficulty to pin down the nature of these baryon resonances is that the predicted states from various models are around the same energy region and there are always some adjustable ingredients in each model to fit the experimental data. In this letter, we report a study of the interactions between various charmed mesons and charmed baryons within the framework of the coupled channel unitary approach with the local hidden gauge formalism. Several meson-baryon dyn…

Spin, helicity and flavour patterns in exclusive decays of bottom mesons into baryon-antibaryon pairs

1989

I use the constituent quark model to calculate the exclusive decays of bottom mesons into ground state baryon-antibaryon pairs mediated by the weakb→c and b→u transitions. TheW-exchange contributions to these decays are found to be negligible. For theW-decay contributions I find that the simple colour-flavour structure of the 1/2+ and 3/2+ ground state baryons together with the current-current nonleptonic Hamiltonian leads to many simple and testable predictions. Notable among these is the predicted vanishing of decays involving 3/2+ baryons as in\(\overline {B^0 } (B^ - ) \to 3/2^ + \overline {1/2^ + } \) and\(\overline {B^0 } (B^ - ) \to 3/2^ + \overline {3/2^ + } \). An experimental veri…

Search for Pair Production of Light Scalar Top Quarks inpp¯Collisions ats=1.8  TeV

2004

Using 85.2+/-3.6 pb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions collected at roots=1.8 TeV with the D0 detector at Fermilab's Tevatron Collider, we present the results of a search for direct pair production of scalar top quarks ((t) over bar), the supersymmetric partners of the top quark. We examined events containing two or more jets and missing transverse energy, the signature of light scalar top quark decays to charm quarks and neutralinos. After selections, we observe 27 events while expecting 31.1+/-6.4 events from known standard model processes. Comparing these results to next-to-leading-order production cross sections, we exclude a significant region of (t) over tilde and neutralino phase space…
