VALUE-BASED EVIDENCES TO FACE THE NEW CHALLENGES OF HEALTH PROMOTION IN A SUSTAINABLE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM.

2017

Thirty years ago, starting from a new awareness of the limits of biomedical power and healthcare services to solve all population’ health problems, the Ottawa Conference coined a New Public Health by defining Health Promotion (HP) as “the process of enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health and well-being”. Since then and over the next 30 years, several programs have been developed all over the world to translate HP concepts into practical actions and many health successes have been achieved as well. Nowadays, even if the global health context has strongly changed, the original principles of HP still provide a solid ground for action, being the community engagemen…

Proposal for an Update of the Definition and Scope of Behavioral Medicine

2017

Purpose: We aim to provide an update of the definition and scope of behavioral medicine in the Charter of ISBM, as the present version was developed more than 25 years ago. Methods: We identify issues which need clarification or updating. This leads us to propose an update of the definition and scope of behavioral medicine. Results: Issues in need of clarification or updating include the scope of behavioral medicine (biobehavioral mechanisms, clinical diagnosis and intervention, and prevention and health promotion); research as an essential characteristic of all three areas of behavioral medicine; the application of behavioral medicine; the terminology of behavioral medicine as a multidisci…

2021

The Erice 56 Charter titled "Impact of the environment on the health: from theory to practice" was unanimously approved at the end of the 56th course of the "International School of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine G. D'Alessandro" held from 3th to 7th November 2019 in Erice - Sicily (Italy) and promoted by the Study Group of "Environment and Health" of the Italian Society of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Public Health. 2020

Abstract Family violence is a global health problem incurring significant costs to both individuals and health care systems. However, family violence as a cause of trauma and other health issues is often unidentified in patients attending emergency care. Better understanding of the risk factors associated with family violence could improve the identification and treatment of victimized patients in health care settings. Little longitudinal research exists on the mental and somatic health of family violence victims currently identified in EDs and little is known about how victims of family violence differ from other help-seeking victims of interpersonal violence. A total of 345 patients were …

Normal-weight obesity and cardiometabolic risk: A 7-year longitudinal study in girls from prepuberty to early adulthood

2017

Objective To study whether normal-weight obesity in childhood is associated with increased cardiometabolic risk in early adulthood. Methods This study assessed data for 236 girls followed from prepuberty to early adulthood. Growth chart data were obtained from birth to 18 years. Body composition was assessed by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry and cardiometabolic risk by calculating continuous clustered risk score (at ages 11, 14, and 18). The association of body weight status with cardiometabolic risk from childhood to early adulthood was examined. Results Subjects with normal-weight obesity were virtually indistinguishable from their normal-weight lean peers in terms of relative body weig…

Le réseau REDSIAM (Réseau données Sniiram) – Spécial REDSIAM

2017

The French national health database (SNIIRAM) proved to be very useful for epidemiology, health economics, evaluation, surveillance or public health. However, it is a complex database requiring important resources and expertise for being used. The REDSIAM network has been set up for promoting the collaboration of teams working on the Sniiram. The main aim of REDSIAM is to develop and validate methods for analyzing the Sniiram database for research, surveillance, evaluation and public health purposes by sharing the knowledge and experience of specialized teams in the fields of diseases identification from the Sniiram data. The work conducted within the network is devoted to the development a…

Use of the word "cured" for cancer patients-implications for patients and physicians: the Siracusa charter

2015

Long-term survival for adult patients with solid tumours continues to increase. For some cancers, the possibility of recurrence after a number of years is extremely low, and the risk of death becomes similar to that of the general population of the same sex and age. During the Fifth European Conference on Survivors and Chronic Cancer Patients held in Siracusa, Italy, June 2014, oncologists, general practitioners, epidemiologists, cancer patients and survivors, and patient advocates joined to discuss the possible use of the term “cured” in reference to some adult patients with solid tumours. The specific focus was the appropriateness of using the term in communicating with cancer patients, s…

Pareto frontier in economic-statistical design of a dynamic c chart

2015

The present paper proposes an economic-statistical multi-objective design procedure for a dynamic c control chart. In detail, a mixed integer non-linear constrained mathematical model is formulated to solve the treated problem, whereas the Pareto frontier is described by the ε-constraint method. To show the employment of the proposed procedure a numerical case is solved and the related considerations are given.

TURISMO NAUTICO: UNA PRIMA ANALISI SULLA DOMANDA E SULL’ATTIVITA’DI CHARTER NAUTICO IN SICILIA

2000

NAUTICAL TOURISM: FIRST ANALISY OF THE TOURIST DEMAND FOR NAUTICAL CHARTER PRODUCT IN SICILY This article points out the problems connected with the measures of the nautical tourism demand. The study analyses the Sicilian case, and tries to define the nautical tourist giving methodologies to investigate this kind of tourist demand. The nautical charter activities and the tourist ports are the principal actors, and thru them the authors calculated approximately the level of the tourist demand. This can be consider the first step to analyze nautical tourism and the relationship with the traditional tourism demand.
