A new approach to the crystal growth of Hg1−xMnxTe by the cold travelling heater method (CTHM)

Abstract In order to obtain crystals with a homogeneous composition and to reduce the Hg high pressure related to the temperature synthesis reaction between the components in elemental form, Hg 1− x Mn x Te bulk crystals were produced by the cold travelling heater method (CTHM). Following the technique initially proposed for the growth of CdHgTe by the Triboulet group, the feed material was a split ingot of two segments, one of HgTe and the other of MnTe, with cross-sectional areas chosen to establish the desired final composition. Ethylene homo- and copolymerization catalyzed by vanadium, zirconium, and titanium complexes having potentially tridentate Schiff base ligands

Abstract New potentially tridentate Schiff base ligands, 2-[({4-[(3-N,N-dimethylamino)propyl] phenyl}imino)methyl]-4,6-di-tert-butylphenol (L1H) and 2-[{2-(N-phenyl-N-methylaminomethyl)-phenylimino}-methyl]-4,6-di-tert-butylophenol (L2H) were prepared and after deprotonation they were reacted with VOCl3 or MCl4 (where M = Zr or Ti) to produce corresponding complexes (L1-V, L2-V, L1-Zr, L2-Ti) with good yields. All new compounds were characterized by the 1H and 13C NMR as well as FTIR spectroscopic methods. The use of local electrochemical probes and surface analysis methods to study the electrochemical behaviour and pitting corrosion of stainless steels

Abstract In this paper, the electrochemical microcell technique is combined with ex situ (SIMS and XPS) and in situ (SVET) techniques to study the electrochemical behaviour and pitting corrosion of inclusion-contaning stainless steels. Dissolution of metallurgical heterogeneities, depassivation and pitting mechanisms are first discussed in 1 M NaClO4, pH 3, and 1 M NaCl, pH 3, by considering the chemical composition and morphology of inclusions. The influence of the chemical composition of passive films on the electrochemical reactions and the microgalvanic coupling processes occurring at the corrosion potential is also investigated on the same specimen microstructure.

The essential oil composition of Centaurea immanuelis-loewii Degen growing wild in Bulgaria and chemotaxonomy of section Acrocentron

In the present study, the chemical composition of the essential oil from aerial parts of the Balkan endemic, Centaurea immanuelis-loewii Degen (sect. Acrocentron, Asteraceae), collected in Bulgaria was evaluated by GC-MS. The main components of the oil were β-caryophyllene (23.2%), germacrene D (13.7%) and caryophyllene oxide (12.4%). Furthermore, a complete literature review on the composition of the essential oils of all the other taxa of Centaurea, belonging to section Acrocentron, studied so far, was performed and the chemotaxonomical variations in the composition of the essential oils is discussed.

This study investigates the natural processes that control concentration of detrital minerals and consequently chemical elements in river sand. The novelty of our approach consists in the systematic integration of detailed textural, petrographical, mineralogical and chemical data, and in the quantitative description and modeling of relationships among mineralogical and chemical variables for each sample and each grain-size class in each sample. Inhibitory Activity and Chemical Characterization ofDaucus carotasubsp.maximusEssential Oils

The essential oils (EOs) of green seeds from Daucus carota subsp. maximus growing wild in Pantelleria Island (Sicily, Italy) were characterized. EOs were extracted by steam distillation, examined for their inhibitory properties against food-borne Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and analyzed for the chemical composition by gas chromatography (GC) and mass spectrometry (MS). Undiluted EOs showed a large inhibition spectrum against Gram-positive strains and also vs. Acinetobacter spp. and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. In this study the chemical composition of the essential oil from aerial parts of Moluccella spinosa L. collected in Sicily was evaluated by GC and GC-MS. The main components of M. spinosa L. were α-pinene (26.6%), caryophyllene oxide (16.8%) and β-caryophyllene (8.6%). A comparison with other studied oils of genus Moluccella is made. Antibacterial and antifungal activities against some microorganisms infesting historical textiles were also determined.

In the present study the chemical composition of the essential oils from aerial parts of Centaurea tomentella Hand.-Mazz. and C. haussknechtii Boiss. collected in Turkey was evaluated by GC and GC-MS. The main components of C. tomentella L. were hexadecanoic acid (19.7%), caryophyllene oxide (6.6%) and spathulenol (4.8%) whereas C. haussknechtii was rich in hexadecanoic acid (26.2%), (Z,Z)-9,12-octadecadienoic acid (19.3%), heptacosane (5.3%) and nonacosane (5.1%). Antibacterial and antifungal activities against some microorganisms infesting historical art craft, were also determined.

Chemical composition and herbicidal activity of the essential oil from a Cistus ladanifer population from Spain

[EN] The essential oil composition of Cistus ladanifer grown in central Spain was analysed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, revealing it to be rich in oxygenated compounds, with trans-pinocarveol (20.00%), bornyl acetate (7.03%) and terpinen-4-ol (6.37%) as the main monoterpene compounds.
