Isobaric Vapor–Liquid–Liquid Equilibria for the Ternary Systems Ethanol + Water + Propyl Acetate and 1-Propanol + Water + Propyl acetate

In order to break azeotropes appearing in mixtures of water and either ethanol or 1-propanol, an azeotropic distillation process is proposed using propyl acetate as entrainer. Therefore, isobaric vapor–liquid–liquid equilibrium (VLLE) data at atmospheric pressure have been obtained for the ternary systems ethanol + water + propyl acetate and 1-propanol + water + propyl acetate. Data correlation has been carried out in four different ways and a comparison between the results obtained in each correlation has been done. Experimental and fluid dynamic study of continuous supercritical water gasification of glucose

Abstract The supercritical water gasification (SCWG) of glucose as a model compound for H 2 production is studied in term of process development at 25 MPa and 650 °C. Gasification has been investigated using a laboratory scale continuous plant comprising a continuous down flow reactor with a volume of 200 cm 3 , a heat recovery section and pre-heat of the biomass to simulate more closely an industrial design. Abstract The feasibility of an emergent technology for in situ removal/recovery of methane from the effluent of an Expanded Granular Sludge Bed (EGSB) anaerobic reactor has been studied. Viscosities, densities, and refractive indices of eight binary liquid systems containing ethanol + some isomers of hexanol have been determined at 298.15 K. The excess property values were fitted to the Redlich-Kister equation to estimate the binary coefficients and the standard deviations.

The analysis of the volatile constituents of “Vastedda della valle del Belice”, a typical Sicilian pasta filata cheese, was performed using solid phase microextraction and high-resolution gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The research aimed to verify if the volatile fraction, determinant for cheese flavor, differs among producers and/or production seasons. The samples were provided by four producers from the area of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) production, during two different seasons of production. Enhanced styrene removal in a two-phase partitioning bioreactor operated as a biotrickling filter: Towards full-scale applications

Abstract Styrene vapor abatement was investigated in a two-phase partitioning bioreactor operated as a biotrickling filter (TPPB-BTF). The removal performance of the TPPB-BTF was simultaneously compared with a conventional BTF, which served as a control. Industrial-grade silicone oil was used as the non-aqueous phase in the TPPB-BTF due to its high affinity for styrene. Both bioreactors were operated at styrene inlet concentrations ranging from 55 to 323 mg C m −3 and empty bed residence times (EBRT) of 15–30 s, corresponding to pollutant loading rates of 13–77 g C m −3  h −1 . Evolution of phenolic compounds virgin olive oil during storage

Phenolic compounds are of fundamental importance to the shelf life of virgin olive oils because of their antioxidative properties. In this paper, the evolution of simple and complex olive oil phenols during 18 mon of storage is studied by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. The olive oils under examination were from various olive cultivars, harvested in two sectors in the same region at different stages of ripeness. The findings indicate that it is not the variety but rather the ripeness of the olives and the soil and climate that influence the phenol composition of virgin olive oil.
