Izaak I Komnen (1007-1060). Wódz, buntownik, cesarz – w poszukiwaniu jego doktryny wojennej?

2021

Monety …

Quantitative relations between different concentrations of micro- and macroelements in mosses and lichens: the region of Opole (Poland) as an environ…

2010

We examined the concentration of selected metals: Al, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb, as well as activity of 137Cs in samples of moss and lichen, collected in the area surrounding Bory Stobrawskie, a wood complex situated in southern Poland. The concentration of metals was determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. The activity of 137Cs was determined by gamma spectrometry. We used these results, as well as results published in the literature, to determine the correlation between the concentration of analytes in lichens and in mosses. The analysis of the function ln(cx,moss) = lna + bln(cx,lichen) indicated with high degree of certainty that the concentration levels of analytes accumulated in…

Fungi and Sediments

2000

Fungi are saprophytic organisms that can form lichens in symbiosis with an alga. Along with lichens, they excrete large quantities of organic acids, contributing to rock dissolution and neoformation of crystals, mainly oxalates and carbonates. Fungi contribute to the accumulation of manganese and iron as desert varnish and play a major role in the calcium cycle inside calcretes and carbonate soils in arid zones. Fungi constitute an important part of calcified filaments found in calcretes. They are covered with calcium oxalate crystals, which can transform into calcite during early diagenesis. They can also precipitate needle-fiber calcite, a common form of CaCO3 found in soils and calcretes…

New records of lichens and lichenicolous fungi from Latvia, with a list of lichenicolous fungi reported from Latvia

2019

Four species of lichen-forming fungi (Calicium pinastri, Chaenotheca laevigata, Lecania croatica and Pycnora praestabilis) and two lichenicolous fungi (Arthrorhaphis aeruginosa and Chaenothecopsis epithallina) are reported as new for Latvia. The first comprehensive list of lichenicolous fungi in Latvia is also presented, including their hosts and distribution in Latvia (northern Europe).

A combined treatment regimen for desquamative gingivitis in patients with oral lichen planus

2007

Background:  Chronic desquamative gingivitis (DG) is a condition characterized by erythema, ulceration, and desquamation of the free and attached gingiva, usually expression of a district-systemic disease, such as oral lichen planus (OLP). Methods:  A combined protocol of oral hygiene and topic corticosteroid therapy was applied in 30 patients with DG associated with OLP. Plaque index (PI) and bleeding on probing (BoP) were evaluated at baseline and after 3 months. Results:  PI scoring was significantly lower after treatment in anterior, posterior, and all sites (P < 0.0001) as well as in vestibular and lingual ones (P < 0.0001 and P = 0.0001, respectively). BoP measures were found to be re…

Monthly Bonaire coral Sr/Ca and oxygen isotope data from 118 kyr ago (coral BON-5-D)

2015

The end of the last interglacial period, ~118 kyr ago, was characterized by substantial ocean circulation and climate perturbations resulting from instabilities of polar ice sheets. These perturbations are crucial for a better understanding of future climate change. The seasonal temperature changes of the tropical ocean, however, which play an important role in seasonal climate extremes such as hurricanes, floods and droughts at the present day, are not well known for this period that led into the last glacial. Here we present a monthly resolved snapshot of reconstructed sea surface temperature in the tropical North Atlantic Ocean for 117.7±0.8 kyr ago, using coral Sr/Ca and d18O records. W…

Rearrangement of 4,5-epoxy-9-trimethylsilyldecalines. Application to the synthesis of the natural eremophilane (-)-aristolochene.

2006

Several 4,5-epoxy-9-trimethylsilyl-eudesmanes and 15-nor-eudesmanes, having different relative stereochemistry and substitution at the oxirane ring, have been prepared starting from (-)-carvone and subjected to acid-promoted rearrangement. The presence of the silicon at C9 favors two different main reaction pathways involving C14-methyl or C1-methylene migration through the stabilization of a C10 carbocation intermediate. Selective 1,2-migration of the bridgehead methyl group takes place with trisubstituted beta-epoxide and tetrasubstituted alpha-epoxide, yielding 4-hydroxy-eremophilane and 15-nor-eremophilane compounds, while the trisubstituted alpha-epoxide suffers successive rearrangemen…
