Combinatorial and independent effects of exercise and myostatin/activin blocking on muscle gene expression profiling

2013

The administration of soluble ligand binding domain of type IIb activin receptor fused to the Fc domain (sActRIIB-Fc) has been recently shown to attenuate dystrophic pathology and to increase muscle mass, but also to supress aerobic metabolism. In contrast, aerobic exercise is known for promoting aerobic capacity. The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the effects of the combination of myostatin/activin blocking and aerobic exercise on muscle gene expression profile of a in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) model, the mdx mouse. Microarray analysis was conducted from the gastrocnemius muscle and Gene Set Enrichement Analysis (GSEA) was performed to examine the effects of the treat…

"Det pirrar inte i magen" : Einstellungen von Deutsch- und Schwedisch lernenden finnischen Senioren zum Sprechen und zur mündlichen Sprachkompetenz

2014

Työn tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten yli 60-vuotiaat saksan ja ruotsin oppijat suhtautuvat vieraan kielen puhumiseen. Kokemukseni mukaan vanhemmat kielenoppijat keskittyvät suullisen ja kommunikatiivisen kielitaidon sijasta eniten kielen kirjalliseen muotoon. Tämän lisäksi suurin osa vanhemmista kielenoppijoista on aloittanut kieliopintonsa kielioppi-käännös-menetelmän aikana, jolloin suulliseen kielitaitoon ei kiinnitetty juurikaan huomiota. Koska nykyään suullinen kielitaito on pääosassa koulujen kielenopetuksessa, halusin tutkimuksen avulla myös selvittää, mikä puhetaidon asema on kansalaisopistossa opiskelevien ikääntyvien kielenoppijoiden mielestä suhteessa kielitaidon muihin osa-al…

STUDY OF MICROCIRCULATION IN ORAL LICHEN PLANUS BY VIDEOCAPILLAROSCOPY

2007

Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate “in vivo” the oral microcirculatory characteristics in patients with oral lichen planus (OLP) and to discover any differences in microcirculation in comparison with healthy patients. Study design. Twenty patients with established diagnosis of OLP and 20 healthy patients were examined in our laboratory by means of contact optical probe videocapillaroscopy. The examined areas for each patient were the right and the left buccal mucosae. Capillary density and total capillary diameter, as well as afferent and efferent loop diameter were studied; the discovery of characteristic (tortuous, branched) loops was also investigated. Results. The results …

Association between socioeconomic factors and origin of hospital referrals among patients with oral cancer.

2022

The Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) is responsible for offering free assistance to more than 100 million Brazilians, including treatment of oral cancer lesions. Considering that the Brazilian public system aids the most vulnerable population, this study analyzed whether the origin of hospital referrals of patients with oral cancer is associated with socioeconomic factors. A cross-sectional study was carried out from cancer hospital records of the National Cancer Institute (RHC-INCA), considering the primary locations (C00 to C06) diagnosed between 2016 and 2019. Data on gender, skin color (white and non-white), education (no schooling, incomplete or complete elementary education; high…

Biological Monitoring Using Lichens as a Source of Information About Contamination of Mountain with Heavy Metals

2022

Abstract The aim of this study was passive biomonitoring of the mountains of southern Poland. Lichens Hypogymnia physodes were used for the study. Concentrations of the heavy metals Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb were determined in these lichens. The concentrations were measured by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). The analysis of the concentrations of the determined heavy metals in the lichen thallus allowed to determine the places with the highest and the lowest contamination with a given heavy metal in the study area. It was shown that the area of Great Czantoria and Big Soszow is the most contaminated with heavy metals among the investigated areas. The study shows that the transport of analy…

Oral lichen planus in children: An Italian case series

2023

Oral lichen planus usually occurs in adults; there are no clear data regarding the incidence and the clinical features of oral lichen planus in children. This paper reports clinical findings, treatments, and outcomes of 13 Italian patients with oral lichen planus in childhood diagnosed between 2001 and 2021. The most common finding was keratotic lesions with reticular or papular/plaque-like patterns, confined to the tongue in seven patients. Although oral lichen planus in childhood is rare and the malignant transformation index is unknown, specialists must be aware of its characteristics and oral mucosal lesions must be correctly diagnosed and managed.

Poesie di Chen Jingrong - Un piccolo omaggio

2010

Chen Jingrong is a woman poet who has strongly influenced the poetry of the contemporary poet Duo Duo. Having lived from 1917 until 1989, her work spans through the whole XX century. The paper presents her work with a special attention on translation problems. It focuses on an analysis of her poetry on the basis of the “translation shift” described by Cosima Bruno. Differently from Bruno, the analysis is made not on two texts, A language and B language texts, but rather on three texts. In this case, the one in Chinese of the original version, the one in English, the language of the first translation, and the one in Italian, the language of the second translation by G. Tamburello.
