International Assessment Surveys of Educational Achievement in Developing Countries : Why Education Economists Should Care

International audience; This paper reviews the most known international assessment studies that are conducted in the context of poor countries and highlights the lack of empirical evidence on the degree to which the contents of the tests really match countries' curricula. To illustrate, the paper evaluates the sensitivity of an international testing instrument by comparing the responses of students in two consecutive grades on the same battery of tests. El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar el proceso de adaptación al Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior del cuestionario de opinión del alumnado sobre la docencia de su profesorado que se ha seguido en la Universidad del País Vasco. En este proceso se ha adoptado una metodología mixta. Tras efectuar la revisión de los cuestionarios de otras universidades, teniendo en cuenta el marco teórico del nuevo cuestionario, las competencias transversales adoptadas por la Universidad y las tres dimensiones que señala la ANECA, se redactaron una serie de indicadores y posibles ítems susceptibles de conformar el nuevo cuestionario. Une équipe « données de la recherche » se mobilise alors autour du projet et, en avril 2016, le portail dat@OSU est inauguré. Our study aimed to investigate the patterns of children’s relationships with their parents and teachers, the development of these relationships during Grade 1, and respective links to children’s learning (in task persistence and performance). Parents of 350 children answered questionnaires about the quality of their relationships with their children; 25 teachers answered questions about children’s task persistence at school and the quality of their relationships with their students; 350 children completed literacy and math performance tests; and six testers evaluated children’s task persistence when completing those tests. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan konsultoivien varhaiserityisopettajien yhteistyötä lapsen vanhempien kanssa. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten konsultoivat varhaiserityisopettajat toteuttavat perhelähtöistä työtä. Lisäksi tarkasteltiin, miten konsultoivan varhaiserityisopettajan mahdollisuus vaikuttaa omaan toimintatapaansa perheiden kanssa on yhteydessä työn perhelähtöisyyteen. Tutkimuksen aineisto on kerätty kyselylomakkeella, joka lähetettiin kaikille Suomen varhaiserityisopettajille, jotka tekevät konsultoivaa työtä ilman omaa lapsiryhmää (N = 637). Early Immersion in Minority Language Contexts: Canada and Finland

This chapter discusses early immersion in a minority language in two bilingual countries, Canada and Finland. In Canada, immersion in the minority language, French, has been implemented since the mid-1960s and Finland introduced immersion in Swedish in the mid-1980s. As the core features of immersion education evolve in tandem with second language education theorizing (particularly as it relates to the interdependence and hybridity between and within languages), so too does the need to revisit the relevance of these core features across different contexts. The research interest evolved from a specific time in the history of Finnish early childhood education and care (ECEC): the first mandatory national core curriculum became effective in 2017 and it also included ME. Pyrkimys autonomisuuteen on yksi ihmisen psykologisista perustarpeista, joka alkaa kehittyä noin kahdesta ikävuodesta eteenpäin. Autonomiaa on kuitenkin tutkittu empiirisesti hyvin vähän varhaiskasvatuksen kontekstissa. Tarkastelemme tässä laadullisessa tutkimuksessa 4–5-vuotiaiden lasten autonomiaa päiväkodissa lastentarhanopettajien näkökulmasta havainnointien ja haastatteluiden sekä lastentarhanopettajien päiväkirjojen ja kirjoitelmien kautta. Tutkimustehtävänämme on selvittää, miten lastentarhanopettajat ymmärtävät lapsen autonomian ja mitä pedagogisia keinoja he käyttävät autonomian tukemisessa.
