Musculoskeletal pain in professional symphony orchestra musicians
2021
Background: A musician’s many years of professional experience may contribute to the development of pain and musculoskeletal disorders. There are a few studies in Poland on gender differences in musculoskeletal pain among adult professional musicians. Aim of the study: This study aimed to assess and compare pain in Polish women and men who are professional musicians, as well as to analyze the relationships between the intensity and frequency of pain and the time spent playing each week and the experience of playing the instrument in years. Material and methods: Sixty professional musicians were examined (26 men and 34 women). Pain intensity was assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS). …
Pierre Boulez: del temps de les utopies
2014
Microvascular angina in diabetic patients with uninjured coronary arteries
2012
Received 14 March 2012; Accepted 26 July 2012 Abstract: Aims: The study aims at the evaluation, of patients with chest pain and uninjured coronary arteries, and the impact of diabetes mellitus on coronary microcirculation. Moreover we want to verify whether a correlation between myocardial scintigraphy results and coronary angiography or not. Methods: The study population included 316 patients (173 males,143 females) with uninjured coronary arteries. Patients with chest pain (208) were divided into two populations: diabetics (72) and non-diabetics (136).We compared 66 patients with a myocardial scintigraphy with results of angiographic indexes. On angiographic images we evaluated, on the th…
Effects of pneumatic dilation and myotomy on esophageal function and morphology in patients with achalasia.
2005
Only two treatment modalities–pneumatic dilation and Heller myotomy–promise long-term relief from dysphagia and regurgitation in patients with achalasia. The objective of this study was to determine whether both options differ in their effects on esophageal function, morphology, and improvement in symptoms. Eighty-nine patients diagnosed with achalasia between January 1980 and December 2002 at a single center were enrolled in this study. Sixty-four patients underwent pneumatic dilation and 25 Heller myotomy in combination with an anterior semifundoplication (Dor procedure). Clinical evaluation (Eckardt-Score), esophageal manometry, and barium swallow were performed before and within 6 mont…
Engaging with mathematics in the kindergarten. Orchestrating a fairy tale through questioning and use of tools
2013
ABSTRACTThe aim of this study is to analyse how a kindergarten teacher orchestrated a mathematical activity involving a fairy tale. Taking a sociocultural perspective on learning and development, naturally occurring talk-in-interaction has been analysed in order to scrutinise the subtleties of the orchestration. The fairy tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears was used both as context for the activity, but also as a means through which mathematical concepts were engaged with. The analysis shows that the orchestration bears characteristics of questioning and use of tools such as voice, facial expressions, and concrete materials. The orchestration is also characterised by sincere planning in adv…
Música [religiosa] moderna en Corea del Norte / Modern North Korean [Religious] Music
2017
Music is a field where North Korea has been for decades engaging in consistent though not extensive international exchanges. Music is there a major national art form, on which a considerable amount of national resourcesis devoted, and the quality of musical education is high. Its practical uses are almost solely devoted to maintaining the legitimacy of the state and its leading dynasty up to a level where the distinction between nationalism and religion visibly evaporates. The musical establishment is hierarchically organized. At the top are court orchestras, such as the former Unhasu Orchestra, or the currently favoured Moranbong Band, whose style and repertoire is closely controlled by th…
Whole-brain radiotherapy or autologous stem-cell transplantation as consolidation strategies after high-dose methotrexate-based chemoimmunotherapy in…
2017
Background The International Extranodal Lymphoma Study Group-32 (IELSG32) trial is an international randomised phase 2 study that addresses two key clinical questions in the treatment of patients with newly diagnosed primary CNS lymphoma. Results of the first randomisation have demonstrated that methotrexate, cytarabine, thiotepa, and rituximab (called the MATRix regimen) is the induction combination associated with significantly better outcome compared with the other induction combinations tested. Here, we report the results of the second randomisation that addresses the efficacy of myeloablative chemotherapy supported by autologous stem-cell transplantation (ASCT), as an alternative to wh…
Prognostic factors for progression-free and overall survival in advanced biliary tract cancer
2015
BACKGROUND: Biliary tract cancer is an uncommon cancer with a poor outcome. We assembled data from the National Cancer Research Institute (UK) ABC-02 study and 10 international studies to determine prognostic outcome characteristics for patients with advanced disease.METHODS: Multivariable analyses of the final dataset from the ABC-02 study were carried out. All variables were simultaneously included in a Cox proportional hazards model, and backward elimination was used to produce the final model (using a significance level of 10%), in which the selected variables were associated independently with outcome. This score was validated externally by receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis using…
The Open Innovation in Science research field: a collaborative conceptualisation approach
2020
Openness and collaboration in scientific research are attracting increasing attention from scholars and practitioners alike. However, a common understanding of these phenomena is hindered by disciplinary boundaries and disconnected research streams. We link dispersed knowledge on Open Innovation, Open Science, and related concepts such as Responsible Research and Innovation by proposing a unifying Open Innovation in Science (OIS) Research Framework. This framework captures the antecedents, contingencies, and consequences of open and collaborative practices along the entire process of generating and disseminating scientific insights and translating them into innovation. Moreover, it elucidat…
