Reconstructed Landscapes of Northern Youth : Reading the Autobiographies of Finnish Youth, 1945–1960

This chapter explores how growing up environments and landscapes are remembered, described and depicted in autobiographies written by people who experienced the reconstruction era in northern Finland in their childhood and youth. The article is based on a collection of submissions to the essay called “Generations of Youth” in 2010 and archived in the Finnish Folklore Archives. The texts provide an interesting opportunity to investigate the cultural meanings attached to growing up environments, mindscapes, and places of childhood and youth in post-war Finland. Background: The use of different growth tables to assess the population's nutritional status has given rise to a series of limitations arising from the lack of consensus and uniform methodological criteria. This leads to a disparity of results that prevent an accurate and reliable diagnosis of whether a child is overweight or obese.Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop growth references for weight, height, and body mass index for Eastern-Spanish children from 6 to 16 years of age.Methods: The final sample used to fit the growth curves was made up of 1,102 observations. Przedmiotem rozważań niniejszego artykułu uczyniono zaangażowanie ojców zastępczych w realizację rodzicielskiej działalności w rodzinnych domach dziecka. Problem badawczy sformułowano w następującym pytaniu: Jaki jest poziom zaangażowania ojców zastępczych w realizację rodzicielskiej działalności, zarówno w wymiarze globalnym, jak i parcjalnym? Stepmothers’ constructions and negotiations of belonging

Applying a narrative approach and symbolic interactionist frame of reference, this study examines how Finnish stepmothers in their written narratives construct and negotiate their belonging. Belonging is a relevant concept in this study since it focuses on social interaction and intersubjectivity, and their emotional content. Three types of belonging were identified: (a) restricted belonging, (b) dyadic stepmother–stepchild belonging and (c) the spousal relationship as a focal dyad of belonging. Bakalaura darbā “Izglītības ģeogrāfija Saldus novadā: bērnu un jauniešu izvietojuma iezīmes” tiek analizētas pārmaiņas bērnu un jauniešu izvietojumā Saldus novada pagastos un ciemos. Bērnu un jauniešu izvietojumam raksturīga augsta koncentrācija novada centrālajā daļā, īpaši izglītības iestāžu tiešā tuvumā. Visos novada ciemos un pagastos jauniešu vecumā līdz 24 gadiem vidū dominē skolas vecuma bērni vecumā no 7 līdz 17 gadiem. Izvietojuma izmaiņās būtisks faktors ir iedzīvotāju sastāva novecošanās un depopulācija. WDR45 Gene and Its Role in Pediatric Epilepsies

AbstractWD repeat domain 45 (WDR45) gene has been increasingly found in patients with developmental delay (DD) and epilepsy. Previously, WDR45 de novo mutations were reported in sporadic adult and pediatric patients presenting iron accumulation, while heterozygous mutations were associated with β-propeller protein-associated neurodegeneration (BPAN), a subtype of neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation disorders, characterized by extrapyramidal movement disorders and abnormal accumulation of iron in the basal ganglia.
