The Other Side as a Rule Rather than an Exception

Abstract Currently, intercultural and heterogeneous realities set the tone in 21st literary education. Therefore, the role of multicultural children's literature plays an essential role in order to reflect this intercultural diversity in Spanish classrooms. In this regard, The Other Side (2001) portrays an African American experience where interaction, communication and negotiation become crucial aspects for their protagonists. In this way, this picture book can be used not only to teach English as a foreign language in primary school, but also to show values like respect, tolerance and partnership.
Infantilas rīšanas paradumi un citas orofaciālā kompleksa atradnes pirmsskolas vecuma bērniem Latvijā

Ievads: Pētījuma mērķis bija izpētīt saikni starp infantilas rīšanas paradumiem ar citām orofaciālā kompleksa atradnēm pirmsskolas vecuma bērniem Latvijā. Paralēli tam mēs pētījām arī oklūziju. Metodes: Šajā šķērsgriezuma pētījumā piedalījās 141 pirmsskolas vecuma bērnu no 4 līdz 7 gadiem un viņu mātes. Orofaciālā kompleksa izmeklēšanu veica divi ortodonti, kurā tika novērtēta orofaciālā kompleksa miofunkcionālā situācija, oklūzija un bērnu runas defekti. Mātēm tika sniegtas anketas, lai iegūtu informāciju par bērnu veselības stāvokli un citiem identifikācijas datiem. Introduction: Respiratory conditions are strongly dependent on air pollution. Urban areas are typically characterized by risky environmental conditions. Objectives: To analyze the effect of traffic proximity on asthma and to explore the relationship between level of traffic proximity and lung function in asthmatic and non- asthmatic children. Background: Transanal irrigation (TAI) is employed for children with fecal incontinence, but it can present several problems which require a study of their outcomes among different pathologies and without a tailored work up. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an advanced protocol in order to tailor TAI, prevent complications, and evaluate outcomes. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore Finnish adolescents’ subjective health literacy (HL) in association to school achievement, learning difficulties, educational aspirations, and family affluence. Design/methodology/approach Nationally representative data were collected in Finland as a part of the international Health Behaviour in School-aged Children study. The respondents consisted in total of 3,833 adolescents (7th and 9th graders) from 359 schools. Problematyka udziału nastoletnich ojców w opiece nad swoimi dziećmi i w ich wychowaniu stanowi aktualnie przedmiot rosnącego zainteresowania ze strony decydentów i społeczeństw. Celem prezentowanego artykułu jest przedstawienie arbitralnie wybranych wyników badań empirycznych, dzięki którym możliwe będzie poznanie udziału nastoletnich ojców w opiece nad dziećmi i w ich wychowaniu. Na podstawie przywołanych w niniejszym artykule wyników badań można stwierdzić, że większość nastoletnich ojców przejawia zainteresowanie sprawami swoich dzieci, a także deklaruje zaangażowanie w opiekę nad nimi nawet wtedy, kiedy nie mieszkają razem z nimi.

Open-air museums are immersive learning environments disseminating ideas about the lifestyle and material culture of pre-modern times. Considering their significance and prevalence in Northern and Eastern Europe, little is known about how contemporary children perceive these cultural heritage spaces. This study scrutinizes how primary school pupils from Sweden and Belarus encountered visits to Skansen (Sweden) and the Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Lifestyle (Belarus) and expressed experiences about their visits in drawings and in follow-up interpretations.
