The influence of adult worm age and definitive host on the transmission of Echinostoma caproni: egg hatchability and miracidial infectivity.

2012

AbstractWe analysed the influence of different ages of Echinostoma caproni adult worms reared in different definitive host-species on egg hatchability and miracidial infectivity. Eggs obtained from 2-, 4- and 6-week-old adult worms collected from rats, hamsters and mice, hatched miracidia that were used to infect laboratory-reared specimens of Biomphalaria glabrata. Highest egg hatchability was obtained with eggs derived from hamsters and mice. Egg hatchability did not seem to be affected by the age of E. caproni adult worms. Miracidial infectivity was not affected by the definitive host species. However, miracidial infectivity was affected by the age of adult worms when they developed in t…

Invazīvo augu (Lupinus polyphyllus, Impatiens glandulifera, Echinocystis lobate) bioloģiski aktīvo vielu grupas un to izmantošanas potenciāls bioekon…

2022

Safety of micafungin in prospective and retrospective clinical trials

2012

Summary Managing fungal diseases remains a major challenge for clinicians despite the improved armamentarium of antifungal agents. This review identified 19 publications reporting safety data on micafungin. Two of these publications were spin off publications, the remaining 17 (15 prospective, two retrospective) were included in the main assessment. Major adverse events reported which occurred in more than 2% in the study populations were infusion-related, gastro-intestinal and hepatic (LFT parameters elevations). Micafungin demonstrated significantly less renal events compared with liposomal amphotericin B and less hepatic events compared with voriconazole. Compared with fluconazole no sig…

Cytotoxicity and modes of action of four Cameroonian dietary spices ethno-medically used to treat cancers: Echinops giganteus, Xylopia aethiopica, Im…

2013

Abstract Ethnopharmacological relevance. Echinops giganteus , Imperata cylindrica , Piper capense and Xylopia aethiopica are four medicinal spices used in Cameroon to treat cancers. Aim of the study The above plants previously displayed cytotoxicty against leukemia CCRF-CEM and CEM/ADR5000 cell lines as well as human pancreatic MiaPaCa-2 cells. The present study aims at emphasizing the study of the cytotoxicity and the modes of action of the above plants on a panel of ten cancer cell lines including various sensitive and drug-resistant phenotypes. The study has been extended to the isolation of the bioactive constituents from Echinops giganteus . Materials and methods The cytotoxicity of th…

Fossil echinoid (Echinoidea, Echinodermata) diversity of the Early Cretaceous (Hauterivian) in the Paris Basin (France).

2013

11 pages; International audience; This dataset inventories occurrence records of fossil echinoid specimens collected in the Calcaires à Spatangues Formation (CSF) that crops out in the southeast of the Paris Basin (France), and is dated from the Acanthodiscus radiatus chronozone (ca. 132 Ma, early Hauterivian, Early Cretaceous). Fossil richness and abundance of the CSF has attracted the attention of palaeontologists since the middle of the nineteenth century. This dataset compiles occurrence data (referenced by locality names and geographic coordinates with decimal numbers) of fossil echinoids both collated from the literature published over a century and a half, and completed by data from …

Manipulative parasites may not alter intermediate host distribution but still enhance their transmission: field evidence for increased vulnerability …

2013

SUMMARYBehavioural alterations induced by parasites in their intermediate hosts can spatially structure host populations, possibly resulting in enhanced trophic transmission to definitive hosts. However, such alterations may also increase intermediate host vulnerability to non-host predators. Parasite-induced behavioural alterations may thus vary between parasite species and depend on each parasite definitive host species. We studied the influence of infection with 2 acanthocephalan parasites (Echinorhynchus truttae and Polymorphus minutus) on the distribution of the amphipod Gammarus pulex in the field. Predator presence or absence and predator species, whether suitable definitive host or …

Distribution models and environmental changes : Application to echinoid faunas in the Southern Ocean and ecoregionalization

2018

Current environmental changes, which impact marine environments, cover major scientific and societal issues, especially as these environmental changes are expected to accelerate along the 21st century. Understanding and forecasting the response of marine biodiversity to these changes is a pregnant scientific issue. Biogeographic and macroecological approaches provide a scientific framework for that purpose. They allow describing and understanding species distribution patterns at large spatial scale as well as estimating their potential shift with regards to environmental change. This is particularly true in the Southern Ocean, where the effects of climate change are already occurring and wh…
