Abstract This paper deals with an experimental and analytical investigation into the tool-chip interface behaviour, influencing the temperature and heat transfer at the multilayered coated-tool rake face during orthogonal cutting of carbon and stainless steels. A new gas sensor electronic interface with generalized impedance converter

A new gas sensor conditioning circuit that allows a direct resistance-to-frequency conversion, as well as the procedure for the design, is presented. The generalized impedance converter (GIC) proposed is configured as a variable capacitor connected with the capacitor timing terminal of an astable multivibrator implemented by a PSoC (programmable system on chip) microcontroller device. The GIC effective input impedance, which is controlled by the gas sensor resistance, controls the astable output frequency. Good correlation of the experimental output frequency, which depends on the gas concentration, is achieved. The circuit is a simple gas sensor digital interface with frequency output.

Developing Domain-Knowledge Evolutionary Algorithms for Network-on-Chip Application Mapping

This paper addresses the Network-on-Chip (NoC) application mapping problem. This is an NP-hard problem that deals with the optimal topological placement of Intellectual Property cores onto the NoC tiles. Network-on-Chip application mapping Evolutionary Algorithms are developed, evaluated and optimized for minimizing the NoC communication energy. Two crossover and one mutation operators are proposed. It is analyzed how each optimization algorithm performs with every genetic operator, in terms of solution quality and convergence speed. mBISON: Finding miRNA target over-representation in gene lists from ChIP-sequencing data

Background Over-representation of predicted miRNA targets in sets of genes regulated by a given transcription factor (e.g. as defined by ChIP-sequencing experiments) helps to identify biologically relevant miRNA targets and is useful to get insight into post-transcriptional regulation. Although phytoplankton has been traditionally reported as the main food source consumed by the Mediterranean fan mussel Pinna nobilis, recent studies have revealed that detritus represents an important food source for this species. Ferula sommieriana (Apiaceae), a new species from Pelagie Islands (Sicily)

Ferula sommieriana, a new species occurring in Lampedusa and Linosa, islands of Pelagie Archipelago in the Sicilian Channel, is described and illustrated. Previously it was attributed to F. communis, from which it differs in several features regarding mainly the morphology and anatomy of terminal leaf lobes and mericarps, as well as the shape and size of reproductive structures. Its ecology, conservation status and relationships with other allied Mediterranean species of the sect. Ferula are provided, as well as the analytical keys of the species belonging to the aforesaid section.
