s-wave charmed baryon resonances from a coupled-channel approach with heavy quark symmetry

2009

We study charmed baryon resonances which are generated dynamically within a unitary meson-baryon coupled channel model that treats the heavy pseudoscalar and vector mesons on equal footing as required by heavy-quark symmetry. It is an extension of recent SU(4) models with t-channel vector meson exchanges to a SU(8) spin-flavor scheme, but differs considerably from the SU(4) approach in how the strong breaking of the flavor symmetry is implemented. Some of our dynamically generated states can be readily assigned to recently observed baryon resonances, while others do not have a straightforward identification and require the compilation of more data as well as an extension of the model to d-w…

Absolute optical chiral analysis using cavity-enhanced polarimetry

2021

Chiral analysis is central for scientific advancement in the fields of chemistry, biology, and medicine. It is also indispensable in the development and quality control of chiral compounds in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Current methods for chiral analysis, namely optical polarimetry, mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance, are either insensitive, have low time resolution, or require preparation steps, and so are unsuited for monitoring chiral dynamics within complex environments: the current need of both research and industry. Here we present the concept of absolute optical chiral analysis, as enabled by cavity-enhanced polarimetry, which allows for accurate unambi…

Vergleichende dimerisierung der enantiomere von Oct-1-in-3-ol mit chiralen rhodium-phosphan-komplexen

1996

Abstract Three optically active phosphanes ([(S)-2-methylbutyl]3−nP[phenyl]n(n = 0, 1, 2), were tested as ligands in rhodium(I) complexes to form catalysts for the enantioselective dimerisation of (R)- and (S)-oct-1-yn-3-ol. The catalytic reaction provides enantioselectivity for this type of CC bond formation. For reactions at 45–75°C and depending on the P-ligand used the rates vary for both enantiomers from 6:1 to 50:1 in favour of the (S)-octynol.

Mbandakamine-Type Naphthylisoquinoline Dimers and Related Alkaloids from the Central African Liana Ancistrocladus ealaensis with Antiparasitic and An…

2018

Four new dimeric naphthylisoquinoline alkaloids, michellamine A5 (2) and mbandakamines C–E (4–6), were isolated from the Congolese plant Ancistrocladus ealaensis, along with the known dimer mbandakamine A (3). They represent constitutionally unsymmetric dimers, each consisting of two 5,8′-coupled naphthylisoquinoline monomers. While the molecular halves of michellamine A5 (2) are linked via C-6′ of both of the naphthalene moieties, i.e., via the least-hindered positions, so that the central biaryl axis is configurationally unstable and not an additional element of chirality, the mbandakamines 3–6 possess three consecutive stereogenic axes. Their monomeric units are linked through an unprece…

First observation of the KS → π0γ γ decay

2004

Using the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS, 31 KS → π 0γγ candidates with an estimated background of 13.7 ± 3.2 events have been observed. This first observation leads to a branching ratio of BR(KS → π0γγ) z>0.2 = (4.9 ± 1.6stat ± 0.9 syst) × 10-8 in agreement with Chiral Perturbation Theory predictions. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. A dispersion theoretical approach to the threshold amplitudes of pion photoproduction

1996

We give predictions for the partial wave amplitudes of pion photoproduction near threshold by means of dispersion relations at fixed t. The free parameters of this approach are determined by a fit to experimental data in the energy range 160 MeV $\le E_{\gamma} \le$ 420 MeV. The observables near threshold are found to be rather sensitive to the amplitudes in the resonance region, in particular to the $\Delta$ (1232) and $N^*$ (1440). We obtain a good agreement with the existing threshold data for both charged and neutral pion production. Our predictions also agree well with the results of chiral perturbation theory, except for neutral pion production off the neutron.

Theoretical Simulations on Electric Properties of CNT-Me and GNR-Me Interconnects Using Effective Media Approach

2011

Abstract To overcome disadvantages of nowadays microtechnology, a further miniaturization of electronic devices, high integration level as well as increase of both operation frequencies and power density is required, including the use of adequate materials and innovative chip interconnects. Due to their unique physical properties, especially due to a ballistic (without losses) mechanism of conductivity, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) attract a permanently growing technological interest, for example, as promising candidates for nanointerconnects in a high-speed electronics.

tau -> pi pi pi nu(tau) decays and the a(1)(1260) off-shell width revisited

2009

The tau -> pi pi pi nu(tau) decay is driven by the hadronization of the axial-vector current. Within the resonance chiral theory, and considering the large-N-C expansion, this process has been studied in Ref. [1] (D. Gomez Dumm, A. Pich, J. Portoles, 2004). In the light of later developments we revise here this previous work by including a new off-shell width for the lightest a(1) resonance that provides a good description of the tau -> pi pi pi nu(tau) spectrum and branching ratio. We also consider the role of the rho(1450) resonance in these observables. Thus we bring in an overall description of the tau -> pi pi pi nu(tau) process in excellent agreement with our present experimental know…

Virtual Compton scattering and the generalized polarizabilities of the proton atQ2=0.92and 1.76 GeV2

2012

Virtual Compton Scattering (VCS) on the proton has been studied at Jefferson Lab using the exclusive photon electroproduction reaction (e p --> e p gamma). This paper gives a detailed account of the analysis which has led to the determination of the structure functions P{sub LL}-P{sub TT}/epsilon and P{sub LT}, and the electric and magnetic generalized polarizabilities (GPs) alpha{sub E}(Q{sup 2}) and beta{sub M}(Q{sup 2}) at values of the four-momentum transfer squared Q{sup 2} = 0.92 and 1.76 GeV{sup 2}. These data, together with the results of VCS experiments at lower momenta, help building a coherent picture of the electric and magnetic GPs of the proton over the full measured Q{sup 2}-…
