Kinetic and thermodynamic insights into interaction of erlotinib with epidermal growth factor receptor: Surface plasmon resonance and molecular docki…
2020
Abstract Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) plays an important role in cell proliferation at non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Therefore, targeted therapy of cancer via this kind of receptor is highly interested. Small molecule drugs such as erlotinib and gefitinib inhibit EGFR tyrosine kinase and thus suppress cell proliferation. At this paper, erlotinib interaction with EGFR on the cell surface was studied via surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and molecular docking methods. Kinetic parameters indicated that erlotinib affinity toward EGFR was increased through increment of temperature. The thermodynamic analysis showed that van der Waals and hydrogen binding forces play a major role i…
The presence of KCl in the exposure medium strongly influences the mutagenicity of metabolites of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in Escherichia col…
1994
Abstract Previous studies demonstrated that the ion composition of the exposure medium may strongly influence the mutagenicity of many compounds in the liquid preincubation modification of the reversion assay with his − Salmonella typhimurium strains. Similar influences were now observed in the reversion assay with trp − Escherichia coli strain WP2 uvrA . The exposure medium was 8 mM sodium phosphate buffer (pH 7.4), containing no other ions or 125 mM KCl. Omission of KCl resulted in an about 10-fold enhancement of the mutagenic activity of 7-methylbenz[ a ]anthracene 5,6-oxide, but in a strong decrease in the mutagenicity of 1-hydroxymethylpyrene sulphate, close to the limit of detection. …
High nucleo-cytoplasmic concentration gradient of chloride in rat liver.
1966
PREVIOUSLY, a high nucleo-cytoplasmic concentration gradient of sodium was found in rat liver and other tissues1,2. Since the concentration of potassium also was higher in the nucleus than in the cytoplasm, about 500 µequiv./g dry weight of anions should exist in the nucleus if the assumption is correct that nucleic acids and basic proteins approximately neutralize each other. This communication presents data which demonstrate a high concentration of chloride in the nucleus of the rat-liver cell.
Estrogen-induced cell signalling in a cellular model of Alzheimer's disease.
2003
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterised by deposition of a 4 kDa amyloid-beta peptide (Abeta) into senile plaques of the affected brain. Abeta is a proteolytic product of the membrane protein, amyloid precursor protein (APP). An alternative cleavage pathway involves alpha-secretase activity and results in secretion of a 100 kDa non-amyloidogenic APP (sAPPalpha) and therefore a potential reduction in Abeta secretion. We have shown that estrogen induces alpha-cleavage and therefore results in the secretion of sAPPalpha. This secretion is signalled via MAP-kinase and PI-3 kinase signal-transduction pathways. These pathways also have the potential to inhibit the activation of glycogen synthas…
Preventing early age chloride migration into low-carbon concrete
2019
The use of substituting cementitious materials (SCMs) to produce low-carbon concrete is escalating. This contributes to reducing the anthropogenic emission of CO2, and to reduce harmful temperature gradients during cement hydration in massive structures. Mature low-carbon concretes are known to perform well on both strength and durability. However, the maturity process is slow compared to that of standard concrete. Structures made from low-carbon concrete are subject to penetration of agents like chloride at early age, accelerating degrading processes. Chloride penetration is a major problem especially to infrastructure, due to seawater proximity and the use of de-icing agents. Solutions fo…
Contralateral potentials in the suprasylvian gyrus evoked by pulvinar stimulation.
1974
AbstractIn encephale isole cats the transmission of the bioelectrical activity in the suprasylvian gyrus, evoked by contralateral pulvinar stimulation was explored. Through the excitability increase and decrease of the pulvinar (by strychnine or KCl, respectively), the surgical removal of the ipsilateral suprasylvian gyrus and the electrocoagulation of the posterior commissure it appeared that the transmission of the activity in the suprasylvian gyrus evoked by contralateral pulvinar stimulation occurs through both the callosal and the interthalamic pathway.
Synthesis, biological evaluation, and: In silico studies of novel chalcone: In pyrazoline-based 1,3,5-triazines as potential anticancer agents
2020
A novel series of triazin-chalcones (7,8)a-g and triazin-N-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)pyrazolines (9,10)a-g were synthesized and evaluated for their anticancer activity against nine different cancer strains. Triazine ketones 5 and 6 were synthesized from the cyanuric chloride 1 by using stepwise nucleophilic substitution of the chlorine atom. These ketones were subsequently subjected to a Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction with aromatic aldehydes affording chalcones (7,8)a-g. Then, N-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)pyrazolines (9,10)a-g were obtained by cyclocondensation reactions of the respective chalcones (7,8)a-g with 3,5-dichlorophenylhydrazine. Among all the evaluated compounds, chalcones 7d,g and 8g…
Dinuclear chloroneodymium quinolinylcarboxylates: The molecular structures affected by water and the catalytic behavior toward isoprene polymerization
2016
Abstract A series of dinuclear chloroneodymium quinolinylcarboxylate compounds was synthesized and characterized. The nature and importance of metal-organic aggregations have been considered as an important factor regarding the molecular structure and catalytic performance. The neodymium center in all the title compounds exhibits the coordination numbers of 8. Cage aggregation was observed in the solid state, and the cyclic arrangement was achieved when water molecules were incorporated into the structure. Upon the activation with Al(i-Bu)3, all the title neodymium compounds form the efficient catalysts for isoprene polymerization. The catalytic activities are not strongly affected by the m…
Phase composition of Fe-containing Langmuir-Blodgett layers after thermal treatment in a reactive atmosphere
1993
By the Langmuir-Blodgett technique, mono- and multilayers of ferric stearate were drawn onto silicon wafers. They were thermodesorbed in air at 250–300°C, and the layers formed in this way were found to consist of γ-FeOOH with defective stoichiometry. By heating in H2, the layers can be reduced to Fe2− and even to α-Fe. The latter is magnetically ordered and highly corrosion resistant. Chloride ions, however, induce fast corrosion. FeCl2, formed by this corrosion, is rather unstable and transforms to an Fe3+ phase. The high corrosion resistance of the metallic Fe layer is assumed to be due to its excellent homogeneity. The experiments were performed using XPS, AES, CEMS, and SEM.
Role of calcium in the adhesion and fusion of bilayers.
1993
The interaction forces and fusion mechanisms of mixed zwitterionic-anionic phospholipid bilayers were measured with the surface forces apparatus. The bilayers were 3:1 mixtures of either dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine and dimyristoylphosphatidylglycerol (DMPC/DMPG) or dilauroylphosphatidylcholine and dilauroylphosphatidylglycerol (DLPC/DLPG), and experiments were carried out in NaCl solutions with and without CaCl2. In NaCl solutions, the forces between either mixed bilayer system were consistent with the DLVO (Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek) theory of repulsive electrostatic and attractive van der Waals forces, and fusion did not occur. At high pH (> 6) and in high (20 mM) NaCl concentra…
