Development of a new method for the separation of vanadium species and chloride interference removal using modified silica capillaries-DIN-ICP-MS
2004
Abstract A new on-line method for the separation of vanadium (IV) and vanadium (V) as well as for the removal of ClO+ mass spectral interference on vanadium determination by quadrupole-ICP-MS has been developed. The sample introduction system consists of a modified fused silica capillary coupled to a direct injection nebuliser (DIN), between the solvent delivery system and the ICP. Fused silica capillaries were treated with different anion and cation exchanger reagents and were tested for the retention of Cl− and the separation of vanadium ions at μg l−1 levels. A suitable strong anion exchanger functional group (3-aminopropyltrimethoxy silane) was selected. Chlorine anions were retained in…
Selective chlorine determination by gas diffusion in a tandem flow assembly and spectrophotometric detection with o-dianisidine
2001
Abstract A fast, selective, sensitive and automated method for determination of free chlorine in industrial formulations and water samples is proposed. The automation of the flow assembly is based on the “tandem flow” approach, which uses a set of solenoid valves acting as independent switches. The operating cycle for obtaining a typical analytical transient signal can easily be programmed by means of friendly software running in the Windows environment. The manifold is provided with a gas diffusion unit which permits the removal of interfering species as well as concentrating the chlorine. The determination of chlorine is performed on the basis of the oxidation of o-dianisidine as the colo…
Organochlorinated pesticides in sediments from the Lake Albufera of Valencia (Spain).
2005
Bottom sediment samples from 121 sites of the Lake Albufera of Valencia were analyzed. Dieldrin, endrin, heptachlor and op'-DDT were not detected (0.01 ng g(-1)) in 88-93% of the sites. Aldrin and HCB concentration ranges were between0.01 and 0.1 ng g(-1) in 86% and 94% of the sites, respectively. Heptachlor-epoxide and lindane 95% confidence intervals were 0.2-0.5 and 0.06-0.12, respectively. The greatest average concentration corresponds to pp'-DDE, pp'-DDD and pp'-DDT. The sum of six isomers and derivatives of the DDT average concentration reaches 2.1 ng g(-1), as opposed to 2.7 ng g(-1) for the sum of 13 pesticides considered. In the site with a major contamination, 27.0 ng g(-1) of pp'…
Simultaneous clean up of fish fat containing low levels of residues and separation of PCB from chlorinated pesticides by thin-layer chromatography

Chlorinated hydrocarbons and total mercury in the prey of the white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla L.) in the quarken straits of the gulf of both…
1976
Samples of the white-tailed eagle population and its prey were collected from the Quarken straits area of the Gulf of Bothnia, Finland, and were analyzed for DDT, DDD, PCBs, aldrin, lindane, and mercury. Mercury, PCB, and DDE were detected in all animals studied. It was concluded that one of the most important reasons for the poor breeding results of the white-tained eagle (especially hatchability) are the combined effects of the studied pollutants originating for the most part from the fish-eating species in its prey (mergansers and great crested grebes). 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin equivalents in extracts of Baltic white-tailed sea eagles
1997
Concentrations of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin-(TCDD) equivalents were measured in extracts of Baltic white-tailed sea eagle tissues. Extracts of salmon, ringed seal, and grey seal were analyzed as other predatory species of the same area. Concentrations in eagle and seal tissues were greater than those in salmon. Concentrations of TCDD equivalents (TCDD-EQs) determined by the H4IIE bioassay were compared with toxic equivalents (TEQs) derived from instrumental chemical analyses in fractions containing polychlorinated dibenzo-P-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/PCDF) or coplanar polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Toxic equivalents were calculated by use of an additive mod…
Optimal Operating Point Calculation for Medium Voltage Distribution Systems
2007
The paper deals with the calculation of the optimal working point of a distribution system, equipped with several distributed generators, able to operate also autonomously, i.e. disconnected from the main grid. When connected to the main grid, it appears in general convenient to assign the slack bus role to the bus that represents such a connection. The problem becomes more complex when maximum power transfer constraints through the connection must be taken into account. The adequate slack bus treatment is even more important when the optimal operating condition must refer to the condition subsequent to an intentional or unintentional disconnection from the main grid. The paper presents an …
Energy generation and abatement of Acid Orange 7 in reverse electrodialysis cells using salinity gradients
2015
Abstract The simultaneous generation of electric energy and the treatment of wastewaters contaminated by an organic pollutant resistant to conventional biological processes, Acid Orange 7 (AO7), was achieved for the first time using proper redox processes by reverse electrodialysis using salinity gradients. The stack was fed with two aqueous solutions with different concentrations of NaCl and a synthetic wastewater contaminated by AO7. Various electrochemical approaches including electro-Fenton, electrogeneration of active chlorine (IOAC) and coupled process were performed in a stack equipped with 40–60 cell pairs and studied by focused electrolyses. The effect of the number of cell pairs a…
Electrochemical abatement of chloroethanes in water: Reduction, oxidation and combined processes
2010
An electrochemical route, based on the anodic oxidation to carbon dioxide coupled with the cathodic reduction to de-halogenated hydrocarbons, was proposed for the treatment of waters contaminated by chloroethanes. The electrochemical abatement of two model compounds, namely 1,2-dichloroethane and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane, was carried out by cathodic reduction at silver, anodic oxidation at boron doped diamond (BDD) and combined processes. The anodic oxidation gives rise to a high abatement of the concentration of both these compounds and of COD. The reduction of 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane proceeds also with high abatement but with the formation of some halogenated intermediates and final pr…
Partial Reduction and Selective Transfer of Hydrogen Chloride on Catalytic Gold Nanoparticles
2017
© 2017 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim HCl in solution accepts electron density from Au NPs and partially reduces at room temperature, as occurs with other simple diatomic molecules, such as O2 and H2. The activation can be run catalytically in the presence of alkynes to give exclusively E-vinyl chlorides, after the regio- and stereoselective transfer of HCl. Based also on this method, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) can be produced in a milder and greener way than current industrial processes.
