Untersuchungen über den Einfluss verschiedener Kationen auf die ATP-Spaltung durch die Zytoplasmafraktion vom Plexus chorioideus des Rindes

1967

The cytoplasma fraction of the bovine choroid plexus epithelial cells was found to contain a considerable ATPase activity. The influence of Na+, K+, Li+, Rb+, Cs+, Co++, Mn++, Zn++ and Fe+++ on the activity of the Mg++-dependent enzyme has been studied. The monovalent cations do not influence the enzymic activity, whereas the effect of the bi- and trivalent cations is characterized by an inhibition of the ATPase.

RESVEGA, a Nutraceutical Omega-3/Resveratrol Supplementation, Reduces Angiogenesis in a Preclinical Mouse Model of Choroidal Neovascularization

2021

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is an eye disease that is characterized by damage to the central part of the retina, the macula, and that affects millions of people worldwide. At an advanced stage, a blind spot grows in the center of vision, severely handicapping patients with this degenerative condition. Despite therapeutic advances thanks to the use of anti-VEGF, many resistance mechanisms have been found to accentuate the visual deficit. In the present study, we explored whether supplementation with Resvega®, a nutraceutical formulation composed of omega-3 fatty acids and resveratrol, a well-known polyphenol in grapes, was able to counteract laser-induced choroidal neovascularizat…

OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHIC FINDINGS IN BIETTI’S CRYSTALLINE TAPETORETINAL DYSTROPHY

2014

Purpose: To report the optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings of Bietti crystalline tapetoretinal dystrophy. Design: Observational case report. Methods: A subject with Bietti crystalline tapetoretinal dystrophy was evaluated with ophthalmoscopy, fluorescein angiography, and OCT (Stratus). Results: OCT showed thinning and hyporeflectivity of the outer nuclear layer in the macula due to photoreceptor degeneration. The retinal areas showing atrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium displayed greater penetration of the optical beam into the choroid and visualization of residual choroidal vessels. The hyperreflective band normally seen under the neurosensory retina was extremely wide when a…

INVERSE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CHOROIDAL THICKNESS AND SUBCLINICAL RENAL DAMAGE IN ESSENTIAL HYPERTENSION

2018

The introduction in last years of advanced techniques of optical coherence tomography (OCT) has greatly increased our understanding of the choroid, that is the most important vascular layer of the eye. Our study was aimed to assess choroidal thickness by using Swept-Source OCT (SS-OCT) in essential hypertensive patients (EHs) with and without subclinical renal damage (SRD). We enrolled 100 EHs of which 65 without kidney damage and 35 with SRD. In all the participants SS-OCT and a routine biochemical workup were performed. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was estimated by the CKD-EPI equation (eGFR). SRD was defined, by the presence of microalbuminuria or eGFR between 30 and 60 mL/min/1.73 m…

SUBCLINICAL RENAL DAMAGE IS ASSOCIATED WITH A REDUCED CHOROIDAL THICKNESS IN PATIENTS WITH PRIMARY HYPERTENSION

2018

Objective: The retina is considered the easiest accessible window to study the state of the systemic microcirculation, even if the choroid is the most important vascular layer of the eye. Our understanding of the choroid has been greatly increased in last years since the introduction of advanced techniques of optical coherence tomography (OCT). Our study was aimed to assess choroidal thickness by using Swept-Source OCT (SS-OCT) in essential hypertensive patients (EHs) with and without subclinical renal damage (SRD). Choroidal metastasis from lung adenocarcinoma: a rare case report.

2019

The choroid is the most common site for intraocular metastatic di sease. Orbital metastasis as metastatic site of lung adenocarcinoma is very rare and in literature a very exiguous number of cases is present. This is a case report of a woman with history of lung adenocarcinoma and, after surgery, detection of a choroidal mass described as lung metastasis, responding to Gefinitib therapy. However a biopsy was not performed. After two years there was a great dimension decrement of the lung metastasis but she is still suffering from recurrent pleural effusion, with pleural thickenings biopsied and diagnosed as recurrences of disease.

Is Ranibizumab effective in stopping loss of vision secondary to Choroidal Neovascularization in Pathologic Myopia? A Long Term Follow-up Study.

2011

Purpose: To assess the efficacy and safety of Ranibizumab in the treatment of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) caused by pathologic myopia (PM). Design: Prospective, multicenter, interventional case series. Methods: 40 of 39 consecutive patients with PM and CNV were treated with “on-demand” intravitreal injection of ranibizumab 0.5 mg. Final best-corrected VA (BCVA) and its change from baseline were the main outcome measures. Changes in Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) central retinal thickness (CRT) were a secondary outcome. Results: Mean age was 53 ± 13 years, mean refractive error -13.5 ± 6.5 diopters. Median follow-up was 13.3 ± 2 months (range 12 – 18). Fifteen eyes (37.5%) had pre…

How Does the Benzamide Antipsychotic Amisulpride get into the Brain?—An In Vitro Approach Comparing Amisulpride with Clozapine

2003

This study evaluated the disposition of the two atypical antipsychotics, amisulpride (AMS) and clozapine (CLZ), and its main metabolite N-desmethylclozapine (DCLZ), to their target structures in the central nervous system by applying an in vitro blood-brain barrier and blood-cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) barrier based on monolayers of porcine brain microvessel endothelial cells (PMEC) or porcine choroid plexus epithelial cells (PCEC). Permeation studies through PMEC- and PCEC-monolayers were conducted for 60 min at drug concentrations of 1, 5, 10, and 30 muM applied to the donor compartment. PMEC were almost impermeable for AMS (permeation coefficient, P1 x 10(-7) cm/s) in the resorptive direct…

Towards the new spectral-domain optical coherence tomography based classification of age-related macular degeneration

2012
