The significance of the concept of sin for bioethics.
2005
After a period during which the theological categories of sin and forgiveness were ignored or trivialized, presently these notions are being rediscovered. What could their impact be on bioethics, either in the narrow sense of medical ethics, or in the more encompassing sense of the ethics of the life sciences? This essay begins with describing the processes of transcending and ethitization, which gave rise to the biblical notion of sin. It portrays the theological foundation of sin in terms of a twofold refusal of proper relations to God and other humans. Through the practise of confession in the face of God (coram deo), sin is placed into a horizon of hope for forgiveness and reconciliatio…
Does Christian Spirituality Enhance Psychological Interventions on Forgiveness, Gratitude, and the Meaning of Life? A Quasi-Experimental Intervention…
2020
Scientific research has provided theoretical evidence on the implementation of religious/spiritual interventions (RSI) as a complementary health therapy, where spiritual improvements are also a factor to consider. Despite the above, there are few studies that have evaluated the clinical applicability of these findings. This study was an intervention with older and younger adults divided into two treatment groups and one control group. What is expected is that the two treatment groups will score better than the control group
Strengthening SMEs’ innovation culture through collaborations with public research organizations. Do all firms benefit equally?
2017
The purpose of this paper is to explore whether collaborating with public research organizations (PROs) contributes to strengthening the innovation culture of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). We examine to what extent their innovation culture is reinforced by collaborations with research organizations and investigate the type of organizational strategies that enhance this effect of collaboration. The empirical study is based on a survey of firms that collaborate with the largest Spanish PRO, Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Our results indicate that SMEs differ greatly in their capacity to strengthen their innovation culture through collaboration with research organizatio…
Foucault, pastoral power, and optics
2015
The article shows that in Foucault’s late 1970s and early 1980s analyses of pastoral, conductive power—most essentially in early and medieval Christianity—the issue of sight and visual perception recurs and occupies a crucial status. In Foucault’s discussion, these Christian relations of power, knowledge, and truth are attached with a surveying gaze that is both totalizing as well as individualizing, one that is mobilized by the thrust towards perfect visibility, transparency, and illumination of the subject turned into an object. The intention is also to develop Foucault’s analysis further, by demonstrating how Christian, providential government can be and actually has been detached from …
La dimensione ecumenica del rito della fondazione di una Chiesa nella tradizione bizantina greca e latina
2013
The dedication of a Church is not the only rite that is used for the initiation of a new place of Christian worship. At the beginning of the construction of a building, liturgical sources provide for the Rite of Foundation of a Church in which blessings are asked on both the workers and also on the future edifice. This paper gives a comparative analysis of prayers used in the rites of the Byzantine-Greek and Latin traditions. Although both traditions have different theological emphasis they also have similarities too. This study bears fruit in allowing us to create a common ecumenical definition of the church-building arising from these analysed texts – it is the future place of Christian w…
Futuro e presente in conflitto

Il film di Christopher Nolan "Tenet" permette di elaborare riflessioni sul presente stato del rapporto tra presente e futuro. L'articolo procede all'analisi della sua struttura narrativa, sulla base di osservazioni tanto formali quanto semantiche.
Electronic and magnetic properties of VOCl/FeOCl antiferromagnetic heterobilayers
2021
We study the electronic properties of the heterobilayer of vanadium and iron oxychlorides, VOCl and FeOCl, two layered air stable van der Waals insulating oxides with different types of antiferromagnetic order in bulk: VOCl monolayers are ferromagnetic (FM) whereas the FeOCl monolayers are antiferromagnetic (AF). We use density functional theory (DFT) calculations, with Hubbard correction that is found to be needed to describe correctly the insulating nature of these compounds. We compute the magnetic anisotropy and propose a spin model Hamiltonian. Our calculations show that interlayer coupling in weak and ferromagnetic so that magnetic order of the monolayers is preserved in the heterobil…
Effect of Substituents at Imide Positions on the Laser Performance of 1,7-Bay-Substituted Perylenediimide Dyes
2021
Perylenediimide (PDI) compounds with no substituents in their core are widely used as the active units of thin-film organic lasers. Recently, bay-substituted PDIs (b-PDIs) bearing two sterically hindering diphenylphenoxy groups at the 1,7-bay positions have received great attention because they show red-shifted emission with respect to bay-unsubstituted PDIs, while maintaining high photoluminescence (PL) quantum yields and low amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) thresholds even at high doping rates. However, their ASE photostability is relatively low compared to that of state-of-the-art PDIs. Thus, the design of b-PDIs with improved ASE photostability remains a challenge. Here, the synthes…
