Soul and Body According to “De Fide Orthodoxa” of St. John Damascene
2017
The Christian and particularly the Orthodox understanding of belief sometimes might be seen as a matter of the soul and not a matter of the body. Based on such an understanding the binomial “creditions – neuronal processes” would not have any significance for an Orthodox anthropology. But such an understanding can be marked as reductionist regarding the broader conceptions that we can find in the positions of the Fathers. In this contribution, some aspects of the comprehensive anthropological understanding of humans and their relation to God will be presented as it is conceived in the famous synthesis of patristic thought, De Fide Orthodoxa, written by St. John Damascene (~ 650–before 755).
Ecological Networks and Planning
2017
This chapter focuses on the regulation issue of the ecological networks/connections within planning instruments. In effect, the paradigm of ecological networks can be adopted within planning instruments to bridge the split existing in current development patterns between the use of the land and conservation of nature. About this issue, the work clearly explains the critical aspects, also referring to different ecological network models and specific local realities. In relation to this perspective, the most commonly adopted approach for the introduction of ecological networks into the planning process is the ecosystemic approach which, when applied to territory planning, shows it is particul…
Dimensionality and factorial invariance of religiosity among Christians and the religiously unaffiliated: A cross-cultural analysis based on the Inte…
2019
We present a study of the dimensionality and factorial invariance of religiosity for 26 countries with a Christian heritage, based on the 1998 and 2008 rounds of the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) Religion survey, using both exploratory and multi-group confirmatory factor analyses. The results of the exploratory factor analysis showed that three factors, common to Christian and religiously unaffiliated respondents, could be extracted from our initially selected items and suggested the testing of four different three-factor models using multi-group confirmatory factor analysis. For the model with the best fit and measurement invariance properties, we labeled the three resulting…
Ceļš: žurnāls teoloģijā, reliģijpētniecībā un kultūrvēsturē; Nr.62
2012
2021
Bakalaura darba “Sociālā kārtība kristīgajā Ibērijā 12. gs. - 15. gs.” mērķis bija izpētīt kristiešu, jūdaistu un musulmaņu sociālo mijiedarbību un minēto reliģisko minoritāšu statusu kristīgo monarhu pārvaldītajā Ibērijas pussalas daļā 12.-15. gadsimtā. Galvenie izpētes fokusa punkti bija reliģisko minoritāšu grupu tiesiskais statuss, ikdienas starpkonfesionālie kontakti un vispārējā dzīve starp kristiešiem. Izpētes gaitā tika secināts, ka reliģisko minoritāšu dzīvi no 12. līdz 14. gadsimta sākumam raksturoja tiesiska līdztiesība un vispārēja iecietība, kristiešiem saglabājot dominanci daudzos dzīves aspektos. 1391. gada grautiņi pret Seviļas jūdaistiem bija lūzumpunkts, pēc kuriem reliģis…
Studying religious music at the grassroots level: a look into the discourse practices of Christian metal bands online
2013
Religious issues are studied in various ways, most prominently by sociologists of religion. This paper suggests that in today’s world of globally intersecting webs of people, places, ideas and action, scholars and readers interested in religion will find themselves benefiting from cross-disciplinary approaches which help them to conceptualize and describe today’s phenomena at different levels. This paper describes how the emerging discipline of the sociology of language and religion may be applied to studying Christian metal bands’ discourse online. Although previous studies give a good idea of the structures, practices and tendencies in and related to Christian metal, little is reported on…
