Experimental studies have indicated that N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonists may be effective analgesics in a wide variety of chronic pain states. The mechanism is presumed to be related to decreased firing of dorsal horn neurons after constant repeated C-fiber stimulation. Dextromethorphan (DM), a potent NMDA antagonist with a good safety profile, may be a promising agent for the treatment of persistent pain. An open-label randomized trial was designed to examine the effects of combining DM with NSAIDs, dextropropoxyphene, or morphine in cancer patients with pain. Immediate effects of active versus passive scapular correction on pain and pressure pain threshold in patients with chronic neck pain.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of active vs passive scapular correction on pain and pressure pain threshold at the most symptomatic cervical segment in patients with chronic neck pain. METHODS: Twenty-three volunteers with chronic, idiopathic neck pain were recruited (age, 38.9 ± 14.4 years; sex [man/woman], 3/20; Neck Disability Index, 28.1% ± 9.9%). Abstract Background and aims There is a growing body of evidence, that pain is common at school age. Less is known about the repeatability of pain questionnaires for children. This study aimed to assess the test-retest repeatability of the Finnish version of the electronic pain questionnaire for school-aged children. Hippocampal oscillatory dynamics and sleep atonia are altered in an animal model of fibromyalgia: Implications in the search for biomarkers

The pathogenesis of fibromyalgia is still unknown. Core symptoms include pain, depression, and sleep disturbances with high comorbidity, suggesting alterations in the monoaminergic system as a common origin of this disease. The reserpine-induced myalgia (RIM) model lowers pain thresholds and produces depressive-like symptoms.
