Comparison among different rainfall energy harvesting structures

In this paper, an experimental comparison between different rainfall harvesting devices through the study of the electrical rectifying circuit is proposed. In more detail, three harvesting structures are considered: the cantilever, the bridge and the floating circle. Different waveforms were acquired and discussed. The processed data were compared in order to suggest the best choice for the rectifying circuit, from the simplest one to that most frequently endorsed in the technical literature.

Charting the Drosophila neuropile: a strategy for the standardised characterisation of genetically amenable neurites

Insect neurons are individually identifiable and have been used successfully to study principles of the formation and function of neuronal circuits. In the fruitfly Drosophila, studies on identifiable neurons can be combined with efficient genetic approaches. Exploiting seeding of random number generators for efficient domain decomposition parallelization of dissipative particle dynamics

Abstract Dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) is a new promising method commonly used in coarse-grained simulations of soft matter and biomolecular systems at constant temperature. The DPD thermostat involves the evaluation of stochastic or random forces between pairs of neighboring particles in every time step. In a parallel computing environment, the transfer of these forces from node to node can be very time consuming. In this paper we describe the implementation of a seeded random number generator with three input seeds at each step which enables the complete generation of the pairwise stochastic forces in parallel DPD simulations with minimal communication between nodes.

Rigorous Multimode Equivalent Network Representation of Multilayer Planar Circuits

The objective of this paper is to extend the use of the Multimode Equivalent Network formulation, originally developed to analyze waveguide junctions, to the analysis of planar circuits that include arbitrary rectangular printed, zero thickness metallizations together with internal and external ports in the transverse plane. The theoretical derivations lead to an accurate and computationally efficient tool for the analysis of boxed, multilayer microwave printed circuits. Activational theories of memory assume that activation from several sources adds up to an intersecting node. We tested this idea in one experiment where we kept constant the number of primes presented and we manipulated the number of different primes related to the target, the number of presentations of the same prime, or the same target, presented as a prime. We used a task in which the target was always a word, which appeared written backward and had to be identified. Assessment of the Current for a Non-Linear Power Inductor Including Temperature in DC-DC Converters

A method for estimating the current flowing through a non-linear power inductor operating in a DC/DC converter is proposed. The knowledge of such current, that cannot be calculated in closed form as for the linear inductor, is crucial for the design of the converter. The proposed method is based on a third-order polynomial model of the inductor, already developed by the authors; it is exploited to solve the differential equation of the inductor and to implement a flux model in a circuit simulator. Continuous Monitoring of Parasitic Elements in Boost Converter Circuit

The given paper explains the necessity of condition monitoring for DC/DC boost converter circuit. Further, an analytical model of circuit parasitic estimation is presented based on measured quantities in the circuit. The implementation of continuous estimation of circuit parasitic elements is analytically explained and verified by simulations and experimental results. Obtained results are acceptable for condition monitoring.

Topology of synaptic connectivity constrains neuronal stimulus representation, predicting two complementary coding strategies

In motor-related brain regions, movement intention has been successfully decoded from in-vivo spike train by isolating a lower-dimension manifold that the high-dimensional spiking activity is constrained to. The mechanism enforcing this constraint remains unclear, although it has been hypothesized to be implemented by the connectivity of the sampled neurons.
