Luminescence of ODC(II) in quartz and cristobalite glasses

Abstract The results of the optical spectroscopy of twofold coordinated silicon centers – ODC(II) in quartz and cristobalite glasses are presented. The luminescence and excitation spectra attributed to different local symmetry of ODC(II) were investigated under synchrotron excitation in the VUV region. The observed differences in the luminescence and excitation spectra of ODC(II) are caused by the environment and, therefore, short-range order in the samples.

Thermostimulated luminescence and electron spin resonance in X-ray- and photon-irradiated oxygen-deficient silica

Abstract Influences of oxygen-deficiency on radiation properties of high-purity, low-OH fused silica were studied. It is found that thermostimulated luminescence (TSL) peaks are different for photo (7.7 eV) and X-ray excitation at 77 K. X-ray excitation produces TSL peaks at 125 and 170 K corresponding to the anneal temperatures of two types of self-trapped holes centers STH2 and STH1, respectively, detected by electron spin resonance (ESR). Oxygen-deficiency apparently increases the number of electron traps, stabilizing a larger number of STHs in the continuous defect-free silica network than is observed in similarly X-irradiated stoichiometric silica glasses. Investigation of optical and radiation properties of oxygen deficient silica glasses

The deficiency of oxygen in pure silica manifests an absorption band at 5 eV as well as an absorption band of higher intensity at 7.6 eV. The band at 5 eV is associated with lone twofold-coordinated silicon centers. The nature of the main band at 7.6 eV has been studied using silica samples with different levels of oxygen deficiency. The excitation via the 7.6 eV band produces a photoelectric response as well as inner center and recombination type luminescence. Two main luminescence bands of the twofold-coordinated silicon center appear: a blue band (2.7 eV) and a UV band (4.4 eV). Search for Isovector Valence-Shell Excitations in 140 Nd and 142 Sm via Coulomb excitation reactions of radioactive ion beams

Projectile Coulomb excitation experiments were performed at HIE-ISOLDE at CERN with the radioactive ion beams of 140Nd and 142Sm. Ions with an energy of 4:62 MeV/A were impinging on a 1.45 mg/cm2 thick 208Pb target. The γ-rays depopulating the Coulomb-excited states were recorded by the HPGe-array MINIBALL and scattered particles were detected by a double-sided silicon strip detector. Experimental intensities were used for the determination of electromagnetic transition matrix elements. A preliminary result of the B(M1; 2+3 → 2+1) of 140Nd and an upper limit for the case of 142Sm are revealing the main fragments of the proton-neutron mixed-symmetry 2+1;ms states.

Optical switching of quantum states inside self-assembled quantum dots

Abstract Photoluminescence and excitation of photoluminescence spectroscopy have been performed for two kinds of single InAs self-assembled quantum dots grown on GaAs. The presence of unintentional impurities (donors and acceptors) offers the possibility to switch from negative to positively charged excitons by selectively exciting impurity related optical transitions.

Optical determination of pH on surfaces using immobilized Fluorescent dyes.

The attachment of pH-sensitive Fluorescent dyes on to hydroxylapatite for measuring the pH of small volumes is described. Fluorescein and acridine were used, both activated with reactive functions, such as isothiocyanate or succinimidyl ester groups, to enhance the possibility of a covalent linkage to the surface. First investigations were carried out on synthetic hydroxylapatite as the surface material. After the preparation of a particular surface with the fluorescent dye, steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopies were employed for estimating the pH value of a solution applied to the surface. Dispersion management in two-photon microscopy by using diffractive optical elements.

We demonstrate efficient generation of wide-field fluorescence signals in two-photon microscopy exploiting diffractive optical elements and short pulses by using a dispersion-compensated beam delivery optics module. Computer-generated holograms are codified onto a phase-only spatial light modulator, which allows for arbitrary single-shot patterning of the sample. Spatiotemporal shaping of the pulse is mandatory to overcome spatial chirp and pulse-front tilt effects that spread both in space and time the irradiance patterns, thus limiting not only the spatial resolution but also the signal-to-noise ratio in two-photon microscopy. Panel Conditioning or SOCRATIC EFFECT REVISITED: 99 Citations, but is there Theoretical Progress?

In a paper published as early as 1987 by Jagodzinski, Kuhnel and Schmidt on attitude measurement in a three wave panel study, we established empirically a general orientation toward foreign employees in Western Germany called “Gastarbeiter”. These items have been continuously used from 1980 till now in the ALLBUS studies (Wasmer and Hochman 2019). In this paper, we have analyzed how the citation, explanation and modeling of the Socratic effect for explaining changes in panel data developed over time starting with the original paper of Jagodzinski et al.
