Association between lower extremity muscular strength and acute knee injuries in young team‐sports athletes

The purpose of this study was to investigate LE muscular strength variables as potential risk factors for all and non‐contact acute knee and ACL injuries in young athletes. A total of 188 young (≤21) male and 174 female basketball and floorball players participated in LE muscular strength tests and were followed up to three years. The strength test battery consisted of 1RM leg press, maximal concentric isokinetic (60°/s) quadriceps and hamstrings and maximal isometric hip abductor strength. The medial and lateral collateral ligament complexes represent primary elbow ligament stabilizers. Injury to these structures may occur because of an elbow dislocation or due to a severe varus or valgus force. Most elbow dislocations are stable once reduced and may be treated conservatively. However, if the elbow remains unstable surgical treatment is recommended. Repair should be anatomical and should restore stability to the elbow in order to permit an early active range of motion. The agency of primary school students has been studied increasingly in recent years; yet, we know relatively little about student agency in music educational settings or how students experience their participation in joint musical action. This study explores sixth-grade students’ experiences of their agency in whole-class playing. Qualitative content analysis of 11 pair interviews identified vulnerability as an essential element of participating in whole-class playing, highlighting the intrinsically emotional nature of the process, the immediacy of the musically shared moment and the safe place of entrainment.
