Relations between the cohesive energy, atomic volume, bulk modulus and sound velocity in metals

By analysing the experimental data available in the literature, it has been found that the bulk modulus B of metals is proportional to the cohesive energy density Ec/V. For metals which start to melt having the close packed structure A1 or A3 the proportionality factor in the forementioned correlation is distinctly greater than that for metals melting from the A2 type structure. The existence of the correlation between the bulk modulus and the cohesive energy density leads to another, hitherto unrevealed correlation between the sound velocity, cohesive energy and the molar mass of metals: u2 ~ Ec/μ.

Ewald Hering's color-opponent-theory is still considered one of the foundations of the visual sciences. Prior to Hering, Hermann v. Helmholtz introduced a theory of color appearance, which was based primarily on the physical aspects of the stimulus. In contrast to Helmholtz, Hering's theory strongly emphasized the subject's perception of color. As a consequence, Hering considered Helmholtz' theory inadequate. Contrary to some historical accounts, he did not object to Helmholtz's three-receptor explanation for color-mixture. Generalized Camassa-Holm Equations: Symmetry, Conservation Laws and Regular Pulse and Front Solutions

In this paper, we consider a member of an integrable family of generalized Camassa–Holm (GCH) equations. We make an analysis of the point Lie symmetries of these equations by using the Lie method of infinitesimals. We derive nonclassical symmetries and we find new symmetries via the nonclassical method, which cannot be obtained by Lie symmetry method. We employ the multiplier method to construct conservation laws for this family of GCH equations. Using the conservation laws of the underlying equation, double reduction is also constructed. Lindblad equation approach for the full counting statistics of work and heat in driven quantum systems

We formulate the general approach based on the Lindblad equation to calculate the full counting statistics of work and heat produced by driven quantum systems weakly coupled with a Markovian thermal bath. The approach can be applied to a wide class of dissipative quantum systems driven by an arbitrary force protocol. We show the validity of general fluctuation relations and consider several generic examples. The possibilities of using calorimetric measurements to test the presence of coherence and entanglement in the open quantum systems are discussed. QC 20141010

Many open quantum systems encountered in both natural and synthetic situations are embedded in classical-like baths. Often, the bath degrees of freedom may be represented in terms of canonically conjugate coordinates, but in some cases they may require a non-canonical or non-Hamiltonian representation. Volcanic gas emissions and degassing dynamics at Ubinas and Sabancaya volcanoes; implications for the volatile budget of the central volcanic zone

Abstract Emission of volcanic gas is thought to be the dominant process by which volatiles transit from the deep earth to the atmosphere. Volcanic gas emissions, remain poorly constrained, and volcanoes of Peru are entirely absent from the current global dataset. In Peru, Sabancaya and Ubinas volcanoes are by far the largest sources of volcanic gas. Here, we report the first measurements of the compositions and fluxes of volcanic gases emitted from these volcanoes. The measurements were acquired in November 2015. Intrinsic Hardy–Orlicz spaces of conformal mappings

We define a new type of Hardy-Orlicz spaces of conformal mappings on the unit disk where in place of the value |f(x)| we consider the intrinsic path distance between f(x) and f(0) in the image domain. We show that if the Orlicz function is doubling then these two spaces are actually the same, and we give an example when the intrinsic Hardy-Orlicz space is strictly smaller.

The complement system plays an important role in the humoral immune response. Activation of the classical complement pathway is mediated by its subcomponent, C1q. Among the main C1q-synthesising tissues, macrophages have been attributed as a source of particular importance. We investigated the effects of cytokines (IL-1, IL-6 and Interferon-gamma) on local C1q mRNA expression and C1q secretion in resident and in thioglycollate-stimulated murine peritoneal macrophages in vitro. The macrophages were isolated from murine peritoneal lavage fluid, maintained in culture and incubated with the cytokines.
