Background The identification of new diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers is one of the main aims of clinical cancer research. Technologies like mass spectrometry are commonly being used in proteomic research. Mass spectrometry signals show the proteomic profiles of the individuals under study at a given time. These profiles correspond to the recording of a large number of proteins, much larger than the number of individuals. These variables come in addition to or to complete classical clinical variables. An Empirical Evaluation of Common Vector Based Classification Methods and Some Extensions

An empirical evaluation of linear and kernel common vector based approaches has been considered in this work. Both versions are extended by considering directions (attributes) that carry out very little information as if they were null. Experiments on different kinds of data confirm that using this as a regularization parameter leads to usually better (and never worse) results than the basic algorithms.

Half a century of Anales de Pediatría. Evolution of its main bibliometric indicators in the Web of Science and Scopus international databases

Purpose: To analyze the coverage and main bibliometric indicators of Anales de Pediatría in Scopus and Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science (SCIE) databases. Material and method: The evolution of the journal production was identified according to the document types, collaboration indexes between authors and institutions, and citations, and impact indicators (number of citations, impact factor, 5-years impact factor and without self-citations, Scimago Journal Rank, quartile, h-index and most cited works). Parasite infracommunities as predictors of harvest location of bogue (Boops boops L.): a pilot study using statistical classifiers

The accuracy of classifying bogue (Boops boops) according to the fishery from which it was harvested was evaluated by applying several statistical classification techniques to fish parasite abundances. Bogue captured in 2001 in two fisheries off the Atlantic coast of Spain were compared with one off the Spanish Mediterranean coast.
