Long-term impact of 19 years' farmyard manure or sewage sludge application on the structure, diversity and density of the protocatechuate-degrading b…
2012
International audience; Impact of long-term biosolids application on soil-living micro-organisms key players of ecosystemic services is scarcely reported. Here, the impact of the 19 year-long application of farmyard manure (FM) and sewage sludge (SS) organic fertilisation regimes on the protocatechuate-degrading bacterial (pca) community was estimated by comparison to a mineral fertilisation regime (U). The structure, diversity and density of the pca community were determined using pcaH, a gene encoding the protocatechuate 3,4-dioxygenase. Ten years after the last application, the structure of the pca community in soils amended with 55100 (100 t/ha/2 years) and to a lesser extent with FM (1…
Comparative lipidomics and proteomics analysis of platelet lipid rafts using different detergents
2016
Lipid rafts play a pivotal role in physiological functions of platelets. Their isolation using nonionic mild detergents is considered as the gold standard method, but there is no consensual detergent for lipid raft studies. We aimed to investigate which detergent is the most suitable for lipid raft isolation from platelet membrane, based on lipidomics and proteomics analysis. Platelets were obtained from healthy donors. Twelve sucrose fractions were extracted by three different detergents, namely Brij 35, Lubrol WX, and Triton X100, at 0.05% and 1%. After lipidomics analysis and determination of fractions enriched in cholesterol (Ch) and sphingomyelin (SM), proteomics analysis was performed…
Evaluating equilibrium and non-equilibrium transport of bromide and isoproturon in disturbed and undisturbed soil columns.
2007
19 pages; International audience; In this study, displacement experiments of isoproturon were conducted in disturbed and undisturbed columns of a silty clay loam soil under similar rainfall intensities. Solute transport occurred under saturated conditions in the undisturbed soil and under unsaturated conditions in the sieved soil because of a greater bulk density of the compacted undisturbed soil compared to the sieved soil. The objective of this work was to determine transport characteristics of isoproturon relative to bromide tracer. Triplicate column experiments were performed with sieved (structure partially destroyed to simulate conventional tillage) and undisturbed (structure preserve…
The influence of natural trace element distribution on the mobility of radionuclides. The exemple of nickel in a clay-rock
2015
International audience; The natural distribution of nickel (Ni) in the Callovian–Oxfordian clay-rich rock of Bure (France) was investigated, together with that of cobalt (Co), zinc (Zn) and lead (Pb). The most Ni-enriched phases are pyrite (∼400 × 10−6 g g−1 Ni), sphalerite (∼300 × 10−6 g g−1), chlorite (∼285 × 10−6 g g−1), organic matter (∼300 × 10−6 g g−1), muscovite (100–200 × 10−6 g g−1) and possibly carbonate minerals (mainly calcite and minor dolomite, ∼10 × 10−6 g g−1). Despite their high abundance (up to ∼80% in the upper part of the formation), carbonate minerals are quantitatively a minor Ni reservoir; most of the Ni is borne by chlorite and pyrite, which are minor mineral phases.…
Zirconium and hafnium fractionation and distribution of Rare Earth Elements in neutral–alkaline waters: Case study of Lake Van hydrothermal system, T…
2021
International audience; We investigated the distribution of Zr, Hf, and rare earth elements (REE) as the sum of lanthanides plus Y in the hydrothermal system in the Lake Van area of south-eastern Turkey. This system is characterised by water with variable pH in alkaline conditions resulting from hydrothermal CO2 upraise and neoformation of calcite minerals in near equilibrium with the interacting waters. Zr, Hf, and REE determinations were carried out for aqueous phases and suspended solids in lake water and surrounding thermal springs. We found that dissolved Hf is partitioned relative to Zr during calcite formation and that such fractionation is a function of the Ca2+ activity in warm wat…
SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE MANAGEMENTS TO CONTROL SOIL EROSION
2021
[EN] High rates of soil erosion compromise sustainable agriculture. In rainfed agricultural fields, erosion rates several orders of magnitude higher than the erosion rates considered tolerable have been quantified. In Mediterranean rainfed crops such as vineyards, almonds and olive groves, and in the new sloping citrus and persimmon plantations, the rates of soil loss make it necessary to apply measures to reduce them to avoid collapse in agricultural production. Managements such as weeds, catch crops and mulches (straw and pruning remains) are viable options to achieve sustainability. This work applies measurements through plots, simulated rainfall experiments and ISUM (Improved Stock-Unea…
SHORT-TERM PROCESSES OF RADIONUCLIDE IMMOBILIZATION IN CEMENT - A CHEMICAL APPROACH
1992
Abstract The ions released in solution by the constituents of cement (principally silicate, aluminate, OH and Ca ions) can combine with the anions and cations from nuclear wastes present in the mixing water to give very insoluble compounds that can fix these ions in the concrete matrix. In order to understand some of the particular physico-chemical processes involved in cement hydration in the presence of analogue elements, tricalcium silicate (C 3 S) was used instead of cement, which is too complex a mixture. It was found that the salt of a chemical analogue, a lanthanide salt, showed some accelerating effects when present in dilute amounts but resulted in large accelerating effects on QS …
Modelling the Reverse ElectroDialysis process with seawater and concentrated brines
2012
Technologies for the exploitation of renewable energies have been dramatically increasing in number, complexity and type of source adopted. Among the others, the use of saline gradient power is one of the latest emerging possibilities, related to the use of the osmotic/chemical potential energy of concentrated saline solutions. Nowadays, the fate of this renewable energy source is intrinsically linked to the development of the pressure retarded osmosis and reverse electrodialysis technologies. In the latter, the different concentrations of two saline solutions is used as a driving force for the direct production of electricity within a stack very similar to the conventional electrodialysis …
Evaluation of adhesion forces for the manipulation of micro-objects in submerged environment through deposition of pH responsive polyelectrolyte laye…
2016
Optimization of surface treatment for reversible adhesion of micro-objects in liquid environment for the need in microassembly processes is presented. A spherical borosilicate probe and planar oxidized silicon wafer substrates were modified by deposition of pH sensitive polyelectrolyte films through layer-by-layer technique. Branched polyethylenimine (b-PEI) and poly(sodium styrenesulfonate) (PSS) were deposited in alternating manner on surfaces, and the influence of polyelectrolyte concentration, pH of deposition, and number of layers on the adhesion were successively examined. The multilayer buildup was followed by optical reflectometry (OR) and dissipative quartz crystal microbalance (QC…
A multi-criteria evaluation system for arable land resource assessment
2020
This study proposed a multi-criteria evaluation system for arable land resources by combining the soil integrated fertility index (IFI) with a soil cleanliness index (based on heavy metals and metalloid content). A total of 16 typical arable land units in Chongming District, China, were evaluated using the proposed evaluation system based on 104 collected soil samples in 16 towns. The comprehensive soil evaluation scores of arable lands in 16 towns were in the range of 90.7 to 99.2 with a mean of 96.2, indicating that the arable land in all 16 towns was at the level of excellent (≥ 90.0). Lower cleanliness indices had a significant impact on the final evaluation score. In comparison with si…
