Melanoma of the oral mucosa with cerebral metastasis: a clinical case

2005

Summary Oral melanoma (OM) is an infrequent neoplasia making up less than 1% of all melanomas, and which exhibits a much more aggressive behaviour than those found on the skin. We present a case of OM located on the hard palate, vestibular alveolar gingiva of the maxilla, and upper lip in a 75-year-old patient who developed a distant metastasis on the left parietal lobe. The advanced stage of the disease contraindicated any surgical intervention and it was decided to carry out palliative radiotherapy, but the patient died before treatment.

Pityriasis rosea Gibert triggered by SARS-CoV-2 infection: A case report.

2021

RATIONALE: Pityriasis rosea Gibert is an erythematous-papulosquamous dermatosis that frequently occurs in young adults. The etiopathogenesis of PR is still unknown, but is frequently associated with episodes of upper respiratory tract infections. It is likely that a new viral trigger of pityriasis rosea is the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). PATIENT CONCERNS: We present the case of a female patient in whom the diagnosis of pityriasis rosea led to the investigation and diagnosis of the SARS-CoV-2 infection. The patient presented to the Department of Dermatology for a 3 week duration of an extremely pruritic erythematous-squamous lesion, initially on the trunk …

Diagnostic and clinical procedures of a patient with oral-facial-digital type II syndrome: a case report

2011

The oral-facial-digital syndromes (OFD) are part of a great number of genetic disorders. They are classified in categories based on characteristic abnormalities, including OFD type I (Papillon-Leage and Psaume syndrome) and OFD type II (Mohr syndrome). The aim of this article is to describe a clinical case of a patient with oral- facial-digital type II syndrome or Mohr syndrome, who underwent surgery for supernumerary teeth removal under endovenous sedation. Moreover, it is intended to discuss the importance of diagnostic and clinical procedures, with proper and concise indications about the limitations of patients with special needs treatment. Due to their clinical and physiological limita…

Viridans streptococcal infective endocarditis associated with fixed orthodontic appliance managed surgically by mitral valve plasty

2018

Abstract Rationale: Streptococcus viridans, a heterogeneous group of alpha-hemolytic streptococci, is part of the normal flora of the mouth, usually responsible for dental caries (Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sanguinis), and pericoronitis, as well as for subacute infective endocarditis. They are responsible for 40-60% of the endocarditis cases occurring on the normal valves, especially in male patients and over 45 years of age. A change in the bacterial flora of the oral cavity is taking part after orthodontic fixed appliances are introduced into the oral cavity, change that is associated with an increased concentration of the acidogenic bacteria. Bacteraemia is the consequence of or…

Ultrasound-guided percutaneous treatment of a calcific acromioclavicular joint

2020

Abstract Rationale: Calcific tendinopathy is one of the most frequent causes of nontraumatic shoulder pain. However, intra-articular calcifications appear to be an infrequent condition. We herein report a rare case study of an intra-articular calcification of the acromioclavicular joint. Patient concerns: A 46-year-old man presented with an acute pain in the anterior superior region of the left shoulder which also radiated to the left cervical region. The man during the physical evaluation also presented severe functional limitation of the shoulder movements in all planes of motion. Diagnoses: The diagnosis was carried out through a radiographic and an echotomographic examination, highlight…

Therefore, different treatments are proposed and used. The aim of this paper is the use of acupuncture to treat temporomandibular disorders and associated symptoms. This article presents a clinical case study of a 39-year-old patient who presented temporomandibular disorders and headache of muscular origin. Results After 10 acupuncture sessions, the results were highly satisfactory, with complete relief of headache pain and absence of joint disorders. These results suggest the efficacy of acupuncture in the symp…
