High-Energy pulse profile of the Transient X-ray Pulsar SAX J2103.5+4545
2005
In two recent INTEGRAL papers, Lutovinov et al. (2003) and Blay et al. (2004) report a timing and spectral analysis of the transient Be/X-ray pulsar SAX J2103.5+4545 at high energies (5--200 keV). In this work we present for the first time a study of the pulse profile at energies above 20 keV using INTEGRAL data. The spin-pulse profile shows a prominent (with a duty cycle of 14%) and broad (with a FWHM of ~ 51 s) peak and a secondary peak which becomes more evident above 20 keV. The pulsed fraction increases with energy from ~ 45% at 5--40 keV to ~ 80% at 40--80 keV. The morphology of the pulse profile also changes as a function of energy, consistent with variations in the spectral componen…
The broad-band spectrum of Cyg X-2 with INTEGRAL
2005
We study the broad band (3-100 keV) spectrum of Cygnus X-2 with INTEGRAL. We find that the spectrum is well fitted by a Comptonized component with a seed-photons temperature of ~1 keV, an electron temperature of ~3 keV and an optical depth tau ~ 8. Assuming spherical geometry, the radius of the seed-photons emitting region is ~17 km. The source shows no hard X-ray emission; it was detected only at a 3 sigma level above 40 keV. We also analyzed public ISGRI data of Cyg X--2 to investigate the presence of a hard X-ray component. We report the possible presence of hard X-ray emission in one data set.
Hidden Oscillations In The Closed-Loop Aircraft-Pilot System And Their Prevention* *This work was supported by Russian Science Foundation (project 14…
2016
Abstract The paper is devoted to studying and prevention of a special kind of oscillations-the Pilot Involved Oscillations (PIOs) which may appear in man-machine closed-loop dynamical systems. The PIO of categories II and III are defined as essentially non-linear unintended steady fluctuations of the piloted aircraft, generated due to pilot efforts to control the aircraft with a high precision. The main non-linear factor leading to the PIO is, generally, rate limitations of the aircraft control surfaces, resulting in a delay in the response of the aircraft to pilot commands. In many cases, these oscillations indicate presence of hidden, rather than self-excited attractors in the aircraft-pi…
From Eunomia to Paideia: The Educating Nature of Law
2020
Education and Law are two of the institutions which most directly influence the configuration of the individual and of society. Furthermore, there is a close relationship between them in that each determines the development of the other. From their very beginnings, political and legal philosophy have asked what is Law, what is education and what should the relationship between them be. This chapter deals with the relationship between Law and education from this philosophical-practical perspective. It begins by illustrating the notable similarities between both and then goes on to address two questions: (1) whether Law should educate citizens in moral virtues; and (2) if the education of cit…
Superinvolutions on upper-triangular matrix algebras
2018
Let UTn(F) be the algebra of n×n upper-triangular matrices over an algebraically closed field F of characteristic zero. In [18], the authors described all abelian G-gradings on UTn(F) by showing that any G-grading on this algebra is an elementary grading. In this paper, we shall consider the algebra UTn(F) endowed with an elementary Z2-grading. In this way, it has a structure of superalgebra and our goal is to completely describe the superinvolutions which can be defined on it. To this end, we shall prove that the superinvolutions and the graded involutions (i.e., involutions preserving the grading) on UTn(F) are strictly related through the so-called superautomorphisms of this algebra. We …
Sports participation and cultural trends. Running as a reflection of individualisation and post-materialism processes in Spanish society
2014
AbstractThis article examines the relationship between cultural change processes and the practice of running. The empirical basis is the national survey on Spanish sport habits carried out in 2005. Specifically, the subsamples of runners (n = 343) and other sport modalities (n = 2,687) were used. The study reveals that runners are characterised by more post-materialist and individualist tendencies than the rest of the participants. The results suggest the existence of a close relationship between the predominant cultural orientations and certain types of sport activity.
$V$-filtrations in positive characteristic and test modules
2013
Let $R$ be a ring essentially of finite type over an $F$-finite field. Given an ideal $\mathfrak{a}$ and a principal Cartier module $M$ we introduce the notion of a $V$-filtration of $M$ along $\mathfrak{a}$. If $M$ is $F$-regular then this coincides with the test module filtration. We also show that the associated graded induces a functor $Gr^{[0,1]}$ from Cartier crystals to Cartier crystals supported on $V(\mathfrak{a})$. This functor commutes with finite pushforwards for principal ideals and with pullbacks along essentially \'etale morphisms. We also derive corresponding transformation rules for test modules generalizing previous results by Schwede and Tucker in the \'etale case (cf. ar…

Performance analysis of the closed loop supply chain
2012
Purpose The question of resource scarcity and emerging pressure of environmental legislations has brought a new challenge for the manufacturing industry. On the one hand, there is a huge population that demands a large quantity of commodities; on the other hand, these demands have to be met by minimum resources and pollution. Resource conservative manufacturing (ResCoM) is a proposed holistic concept to manage these challenges. The successful implementation of this concept requires cross functional collaboration among relevant fields, and among them, closed loop supply chain is an essential domain. The paper aims to highlight some misconceptions concerning the closed loop supply chain, to d…
Proteomics of CaCO3 biomineral-associated proteins: how to properly address their analysis.
2013
8 pages; International audience; In a recent editorial (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci., 2013 110, E2144-E2146) and elsewhere, questions have been raised regarding the experimental practices in relation to the proteomic analysis of organic matrices associated to the biomineralized CaCO3 skeletons of metazoans such as molluscan shells and coral skeletons. Indeed, although the use of new high sensitivity MS technology potentially allows to identify a greater number of proteins, it is also equally (or even more) sensitive to contamination of residual proteins from soft tissues, which are in close contact with the biomineral. Based on our own past and present experimental know-how-observations that are …
