Sudrabaino mākoņu novērojumi Latvijā 1957.-1983.gadā: žurnālu saturs un digitalizēšanas metodika
2022
--//-- Mesospheric Cloud observation logs contain notes made by observers in the form of longer texts or graphic sketches. They are not included in the log files, as it would make them difficult to see and use. This volume contains notes on the entire observation period 1957-1983. They are arranged by observation sites in chronological order.
Dust Production and Particle Acceleration in Supernova 1987A Revealed with ALMA
2013
Supernova (SN) explosions are crucial engines driving the evolution of galaxies by shock heating gas, increasing the metallicity, creating dust, and accelerating energetic particles. In 2012 we used the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array to observe SN 1987A, one of the best-observed supernovae since the invention of the telescope. We present spatially resolved images at 450um, 870um, 1.4mm, and 2.8mm, an important transition wavelength range. Longer wavelength emission is dominated by synchrotron radiation from shock-accelerated particles, shorter wavelengths by emission from the largest mass of dust measured in a supernova remnant (>0.2Msun). For the first time we show unambig…

Search for Galactic PeV gamma rays with the IceCube Neutrino Observatory
2013
Gamma-ray induced air showers are notable for their lack of muons, compared to hadronic showers. Hence, air shower arrays with large underground muon detectors can select a sample greatly enriched in photon showers by rejecting showers containing muons. IceCube is sensitive to muons with energies above ~500 GeV at the surface, which provides an efficient veto system for hadronic air showers with energies above 1 PeV. One year of data from the 40-string IceCube configuration was used to perform a search for point sources and a Galactic diffuse signal. No sources were found, resulting in a 90% C.L. upper limit on the ratio of gamma rays to cosmic rays of 1.2 x 10^(-3)for the flux coming from …
Traitement 3D de nuages de points basé sur la connaissance
2013
The modeling of real-world scenes through capturing 3D digital data has proven to be both useful andapplicable in a variety of industrial and surveying applications. Entire scenes are generally capturedby laser scanners and represented by large unorganized point clouds possibly along with additionalphotogrammetric data. A typical challenge in processing such point clouds and data lies in detectingand classifying objects that are present in the scene. In addition to the presence of noise, occlusionsand missing data, such tasks are often hindered by the irregularity of the capturing conditions bothwithin the same dataset and from one data set to another. Given the complexity of the underlying…
Energy-Efficient Resource Allocation and User Scheduling for Collaborative Mobile Clouds With Hybrid Receivers
2016
In this paper, we study the resource allocation and user scheduling algorithm for minimizing the energy cost of data transmission in the context of OFDMA collaborative mobile cloud (CMC) with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) receivers. The CMC, which consists of several collaborating MTs offers one potential solution for downlink con- tent distribution and for the energy consumption reduction at the terminal side. Meanwhile, as RF signal can carry both informa- tion and energy simultaneously, the induced SWIPT has gained much attention for energy efficiency design of mobile nodes. Previous work on the design of CMC system mainly focused on the cloud formulation o…
Shock-cloud interaction in the Vela SNR II. Hydrodynamic model
2006
In the framework of the study of the X-ray and optical emission in supernova remnants we focus on an isolated X-ray knot in the northern rim of the Vela SNR (Vela FilD), whose X-ray emission has been studied and discussed in Paper I. We aim at understanding the physical origin of the X-ray and optical emission in FilD, at understanding the role of the different physical processes at work, and at obtaining a key for the interpretation of future X-ray observations of SNRs. To this end we have pursued an accurate ``forward'' modeling of the interaction of the Vela SNR shock with an ISM cloud. We perform hydrodynamic simulations and we directly compare the observables synthesized from the simul…
