Green vs Traditional Roofs: Assessing their Actual Benefits through an Integrated Indicator Developed for Cool Roofs

Green roofs have caught on in cities, mainly because contribute positively to thermal behaviour of buildings equipped with them. This paper investigates the applicability to these roofs of an integrated indicator, developed by Levinson and Akbari, to assess the contribution of cool roofs to buildings’ energy consumption. A building, assumed as the reference for the Italian medium size offices, was considered and its energy performance with and without the green roof was assessed. Different sites with different climatic conditions were considered for the simulations. First results indicate that such indicator does not seem to be completely transferable to green roofs.
Comparison Between Conventional and Vegetated Roof by Means of a Dynamic Simulation

In this paper, a dynamic simulation of a building located in the Campus University of Palermo, Italy, has been carried out. We considered two different scenarios; in the first one, the building as it is, with a conventional covering, while in the second one the roof was equipped with a green roof. The results of the two simulations have been compared, suggesting that such building component could contribute to the energy savings of the building. The concept of load matching refers to the simultaneous occurrence of loads and generation in buildings: it can be increased and optimised with modifications on both the energy demand and generation, but its pre-requisite is to guarantee passive energy efficiency. L'esperienza é stata condotta nell'ambito dell'attività istituzionale dell'USSM di Palermo ed é una sperimentazione assolutamente inedita nel panorama nazionale. La dimensione del gruppo e la possibilità di rispecchiamento, di "messa in gioco", di rielaborazione, che questo dispositivo permette, hanno fornito spunti di crescita e risultati positivi nel progetto educativo individualizzato dei partecipanti.

Recientes estudios han demostrado el escaso hábito lector de los estudiantes universitarios españoles, así como la falta de solidez de su competencia literaria. Estas limitaciones ponen de relieve la necesidad de la lectura guiada, una propuesta didáctica que suele relacionarse con los niveles iniciales de la enseñanza, pero cuya necesidad se hace cada vez más imperiosa en la educación superior. En este contexto, el presente artículo apuesta por el seminario de lectura como una de las estrategias más efectivas, a la par que estimulantes, para acompañar a los universitarios en ese aprendizaje.
