Impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak on radiology research: An Italian survey

Abstract Purpose To understand how COVID-19 pandemic has changed radiology research in Italy. Methods A questionnaire (n = 19 questions) was sent to all members of the Italian Society of Radiology two months after the first Italian national lockdown was lifted. Results A total of 327 Italian radiologists took part in the survey (mean age: 49 ± 12 years). After national lockdown, the working-flow came back to normal in the vast majority of cases (285/327, 87.2%). Participants reported that a total of 462 radiological trials were recruiting patients at their institutions prior to COVID-19 outbreak, of which 332 (71.9%) were stopped during the emergency. Immune biomarkers to predict SARS-CoV-2 vaccine effectiveness in patients with hematological malignancies

AbstractThere is evidence of reduced SARS-CoV-2 vaccine effectiveness in patients with hematological malignancies. We hypothesized that tumor and treatment-related immunosuppression can be depicted in peripheral blood, and that immune profiling prior to vaccination can help predict immunogenicity. We performed a comprehensive immunological characterization of 83 hematological patients before vaccination and measured IgM, IgG, and IgA antibody response to four viral antigens at day +7 after second-dose COVID-19 vaccination using multidimensional and computational flow cytometry. Actively thinking of one's future as an older individual could increase perceived risk and risk aversion. This could be particularly relevant for COVID-19, if we consider the common representation of the risk of being infected by COVID-19 as associated with being older. Fifty-five consecutive patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) (n = 57) were treated with a combination of levofolinic acid (I-FA) 100 mg/m2 plus 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) 340 mg/m2 i.v. on day 1-3, cyclophosphamide (CTX) 600 mg/m2 i.v. on day 1 and mitoxantrone (DHAD) 12 mg/m2 i.v. on day 1. DHAD dose was progressively escalated by 2 mg/m2/cycle up to 18 mg/m2 in the absence of dose-limiting toxicities. Granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) was given s.c. in order to prevent neutropenia. DHAD dosage could be increased to 18 mg/m2 in 66 out of 317 cycles of chemotherapy (21%).
