ILLEGAL CONSTRUCTIONS IN COASTAL AREAS. PALERMO’S SEASIDE

2012

Strategies to qualify coastal settings must be focused on the evaluation of seaside even in terms of sustainable tourism increasing. Projecting and operating to realize these aims means: to stimulate an eco-compatible behaviour even through new law instruments aimed to reach quality standards, to activate an ecological net of receptive structures, to realize suistable instruments to periodically monitor places the control the environmental impact. In this way, the present study analyzes the problems of Palermo’s seaside, attacked by urbanization and wild speculation, expressing on the forecast of urban plans and on eco-compatible usage strategies

Environmental Benefits and Economical Sustainability of Urban Wastewater Reuse for Irrigation—A Cost-Benefit Analysis of an Existing Reuse Project in…

2020

Besides benefits associated to increased water availability for irrigation, reuse projects of urban water can also provide positive environmental impacts, as they contribute to improve water quality of the receiving bodies by diverting wastewater from their outlet. This represents a typical win-win situation where significant synergies can be achieved between urban and agricultural sector, and the environment. These favorable conditions, however, do not necessarily imply that water reuse is either feasible from an economic perspective nor that the underlying supply chain is going to be triggered, if certain conditions are not met. Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) is considered a sound, theoretic…

Rimettere in valore gli spazi pubblici del territorio agrigentino

2015

The contemporary city poses a question about regeneration which increasingly finds its answer within the open spaces, where values and potential are recognized not only in ecological and environmental terms but also in terms of agricultural production. However these areas may have consequences on global sustainability and local urban-welfare, provoking identification processes with the places and regenerating the local identities as the only guarantee of survival in a harmonic territory. The research hypothesis is that the coastal areas and peri-urban spaces could contribute substantially to society and sustainable urban development as well as having an impact on social, physical, environme…

Potential effects of transgenic cotton on soil ecosystem processes in Vietnam.

2008

This chapter concentrates on the potential effects of transgenic cotton on the soil ecosystem of three major cotton growing areas in Vietnam: the coastal lowlands region, the central highlands (eastern and western Truong Son Mountain Range) and the south-eastern region. Soils in these three regions are very different, so it will be necessary to assess the effects of transgenic cotton on typical soils from all three regions. The soils in the south-eastern region are Luvisols, Andosols and Acrisols. In the central highlands, the soils are mainly Luvisols, Rhodic Ferrasols and Haplic Acrisols. The soils in the coastal lowlands region are mainly delta soils, consolidated occasionally by grey li…
