Modelling jet quenching

2013

Abstract High P T measurements of hard hadrons or jets at RHIC and LHC appear contradictory and in some cases counterintuitive, but upon closer investigation they represent a coherent picture of jet-medium interaction physics which can be established with systematic comparisons of models against a large body of data. This picture is consistent with a perturbative QCD mechanism and does not require exotic assumptions. This overview outlines how several key measurements each partially constrain shower-medium interaction physics and how from the sum of those the outlines of the mechanism of jet quenching can be deduced. Most current jet results from LHC can be naturally understood in this pict…

Precision measurement of scaled momentum, charge multiplicity, and thrust in νμN and interactions

1999

By focusing on the notion of electronic document, we differentiate two evolutions which are useful to distinct titles: on the one hand are the documents, which have value of reference. Its administrator will take care to preserve its integrity and its context of production which is strongly significant. On the other hand are resources, evolutionary elements by nature, which the user must be able to appropriate and who must thus be placed at the disposal so that the production is erased, to focus on a logic of exploitation and service.

Superfluid properties of the inner crust of neutron stars

2011

We investigated the superfluid properties of the inner crust of neutron stars, solving the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov equations in spherical Wigner-Seitz cells. Using realistic two-body interactions in the pairing channel, we studied in detail the Cooper-pair and the pairing-field spatial properties, together with the effect of the proton clusters on the neutron pairing gap. Calculations with effective pairing interactions are also presented, showing significant discrepancies with the results obtained with realistic pairing forces. At variance with recent studies on finite nuclei, the neutron coherence length is found to depend on the strength of the pairing interaction, even inside the nucleu…

Quantum decoherence and neutrino data

2006

In this work we perform global fits of microscopic decoherence models of neutrinos to all available current data, including LSND and KamLAND spectral distortion results. In previous works on related issues the models used were supposed to explain LSND results by means of quantum gravity induced decoherence. However those models were purely phenomenological without any underlying microscopic basis. It is one of the main purposes of this article to use detailed microscopic decoherence models with complete positivity, to fit the data. The decoherence in these models has contributions not only from stochastic quantum gravity vacua operating as a medium, but also from conventional uncertainties i…

Relaxation and decoherence of orbital and spin degrees of freedom in quantum dots

2002

The phonon induced mechanisms of relaxation/decoherence in quantum dots are analysed. A non-perturbative technique - a modification of the Davydov transformation appropriate to the localised particles is applied for solving the electron-phonon eigenvalue problem in a quantum dot at magnetic field presence. The decay rates for polaron relaxation via the anharmonicity induced channel are analysed in details. In particular, it is indicated that previous, of perturbative type, estimations of the anharminicity induced relaxation rates were too severe and after including the coherence effects they are of, at least, one order longer. The process of exciton dressing with phonons is also analysed as…

Coherent and incoherent spectral broadening in a photonic crystal fiber.

2007

The coherence of the spectral broadening process is the key requisite for the application of supercontinua in frequency combs. We investigate the coherence of two subsequent supercontinuum pulses created in a photonic crystal fiber pumped by a femtosecond laser. We measure Young interference fringes from a Michelson-type interferometer at different wavelengths of the output spectrum and analyze their dependence on pump intensity and polarization. The visibility of these fringes is a direct measure of the coherence of the spectral broadening processes.

Phase-stable free-space optical lattices for trapped ions

2015

We demonstrate control of the absolute phase of an optical lattice with respect to a single trapped ion. The lattice is generated by off-resonant free-space laser beams, we actively stabilize its phase by measuring its ac-Stark shift on a trapped ion. The ion is localized within the standing wave to better than 2\% of its period. The locked lattice allows us to apply displacement operations via resonant optical forces with a controlled direction in phase space. Moreover, we observe the lattice-induced phase evolution of spin superposition states in order to analyze the relevant decoherence mechanisms. Finally, we employ lattice-induced phase shifts for inferring the variation of the ion pos…

Diffractive optics for high-resolution low-coherence digital holography

2010

We study the properties of the recording of off-axis holograms when a 10 fs pulsed laser is used as illumination source. A proper optical design involving one diffractive lens outside a Michelson interferometer enables the recording of full-field off-axis holograms with high resolution and optical sectioning. We demonstrate our approach with some experimental results that show optical sectioning with a maximum resolution of 3.5 µm. We note that the axial resolution of the technique is reduced up to 9 µm when the object beam travels through a few millimeters of glass due to the pulse broadening along dispersive media.

Spectral coherence in microresonator combs

2014

We provide a quantitative analysis of the coherence in microresonator frequency combs. We show how to achieve coherent transform-limited pulses on-chip without actively manipulating the pump setting conditions in the course of comb formation.
