A Study of Bose-Einstein Correlations In e+e- Annihilation At 91 Gev

1992

This paper describes a study of Bose-Einstein correlations made using the ALEPH detector at LEP. The correlations are found to enhance the two particle differential cross section for pairs of identical pions by a factor which can be roughly parametrized by R(Q) = 1 + lambda exp(-Q2-sigma(2)), where Q is the difference in the 3-momenta of the two pions in their centre of mass frame, lambda = 0.51 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.11 and sigma = 3.3 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.8 GeV-1, which corresponds to a source size of 0.65 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.16 fm. The large systematic errors on these results reflect their strong dependence on the choice of the reference sample used in the analysis. This problem is believed to occur primari…

Quantum fluctuations of the conductance in the hopping regime

1992

Abstract The results of the numerical scaling approach for localization are used to discuss the statistical behaviour of the zero-temperature conductance of disordered systems of finite size. In the asymptotic regime of strong localization, where transport is dominated by hopping processes, explicit expressions for the temperature dependence of the fluctuations of the conductance and the resistance are obtained by assuming that the phase coherence length is given by the Mott hopping law. It is shown that the temperature dependence of the fluctuations of the logarithm of the conductance/resistance does not depend on the assumptions concerning the statistics of the hopping processes. The resu…

Models, predictions, and experimental measurements of far-infrared NH3-laser dynamics and comparisons with the Lorenz-Haken model

1995

Dynamics of the intensity and optical field amplitude of a coherently pumped far-infrared NH3-laser are measured and characterized. The experimental findings in certain parameter ranges closely follow the dynamics of the Lorenz model and its generalization for laser systems. Similarities and some specific differences are found in geometrical or statistical characterizations of the attractors. The experimental results are also consistent with the results of a model of optically pumped three-level lasers which takes into account the presence of a multiplicity of velocity groups as well as three-level coherence effects. For a certain region in parameter space, this far more complex model with …

Coherence functions of the electrical and the optical noises in monomodal packaged vertical cavity surface emitting lasers

2006

Calculations of the frequency noise spectra and of the coherence functions between the electrical and the optical noises for a single-mode packaged vertical surface emitting laser (VCSEL) are reported.A rate-equation model for an index guided VCSEL is used, implemented with the electrical noise model including the intrinsic device, the package and external bias network. The extended model works up to the laser relaxation frequency. The amplitude optical noise and its correlation with the frequency and electrical noises are also analysed. The influence on the calculated quantities of some electrical and laser parameters is evaluated. The results show that generally the frequency noise is corr…

Two-dimensional temporal coherence coding for super resolved imaging

2009

In this paper, we present an approach that can be used for transmission of 2D spatial information through space-limited systems capable of transmitting even only a single spatial pixel. The input 2D object is illuminated with temporally incoherent illumination. The axial coherence length is very short and it equals only a few microns. Attached to the input object spatial random phase mask generates different axial shift for every pixel of the input. The temporal delays of the encoding (axial shifts) of every pixel are longer than the coherence length of the illuminating source. Therefore no temporal correlation exists between the various pixels of the input. A lens combines all spatial pixe…

Cortical proprioceptive processing can be investigated using corticokinematic coherence (CKC). The findings show that CKC method is sensitive to temporal stability in the stimulation sequence. Although both regular and irregular sequences resulted in robust coherence, the regular stimulation sequence with pneumatic movement actuator is recommended to maximize coherence strength and reproducibility to allow better comparability between groups or populations.

Irreversible decay of nonlocal entanglement via a reservoir of a single degree of freedom.

2007

Recently, it has been realized that nonlocal disentanglement may take a finite time as opposite to the asymptotic decay of local coherences. We find in this paper that a sudden irreversible death of entanglement takes place in a two atom optical Stern-Gerlach model. In particular, the one degree non dissipative environment here considered suddenly destroys the initial entanglement of any Bell's states $\ket{\phi^{\pm}}$ superposition.

Connection among entanglement, mixedness, and nonlocality in a dynamical context

2010

We investigate the dynamical relations among entanglement, mixedness and nonlocality, quantifed by concurrence C, purity P and maximum of Bell function B, respectively, in a system of two qubits in a common structured reservoir. To this aim we introduce the C-P-B parameter space and analyze the time evolution of the point representative of the system state in such a space. The dynamical interplay among entanglement, mixedness and nonlocality strongly depends on the initial state of the system. For a two-excitation Bell state the representative point draws a multi-branch curve in the C-P-B space and we show that a closed relation among these quantifers does not hold. By extending the known r…

Memory-assisted long-distance phase-matching quantum key distribution

2019

We propose a scheme that generalizes the loss scaling properties of twin-field or phase-matching quantum key distribution (QKD) related to a channel of transmission $\eta_{total}$ from $\sqrt{\eta_{total}}$ to $\sqrt[2n]{\eta_{total}}$ by employing n-1 memory stations with spin qubits and n beam-splitter stations including optical detectors. Our scheme's resource states are similar to the coherent-state-based light-matter entangled states of a previous hybrid quantum repeater, but unlike the latter our scheme avoids the necessity of employing 2n-1 memory stations and writing the transmitted optical states into the matter memory qubits. The full scaling advantage of this memory-assisted phas…
