Lexical cohesion revisited. A combined corpus and systemic-functional analysis

In this chapter I argue for a refinement of the classic SFL approach to lexical cohesion. First, a literature overview is provided in which key principles and related categories are examined. In addition, the connection of cohesion and discourse co-herence is addressed and an overview is provided of the wide range of applications that the former has in such fields as genre studies, language teaching and learning, psycholinguistics and computational linguistics, among others. Resolution-enhanced optical coherence tomography based on classical intensity interferometry.

We propose a fourth-order interference scheme for optical coherence tomography operating with broadband incoherent (or quasi-incoherent) light. It is shown that using this proposal, an axial resolution improvement by a factor of 2 and a better sensitivity for weakly reflecting samples are obtained than with the standard second-order correlation scheme. From a practical perspective, we suggest the use of broadband Q-switched pulses and performing ultrafast intensity correlation with a nonlinear crystal. Aquest article exposa els problemes centrals de les dues concepcions sobre la veritat que ens ha llegat la tradició filosòfica, la teoria de la correspondència i la teoria coherentista, assenyalant com a tret comú d’aquestes el fet que plantegen el problema de la veritat centrant-se en enunciats aïllats. S'esbossa una proposta alternativa consistent en combinar la tesi intuïcionista de Dummett amb l’holisme de Quine, proposta que situa la veritat com una construcció no d’enunciats individuals sinó de sistemes cognitius que interpreten la realitat.

Aquest treball pretén donar compte de la dimensió pragmàtica de la cohesió a través de l'anàlisi d'un text argumentatiu conversacional. El treball se situa en el marc teòric de la Gramàtica Discursiva Funcional («Functional Discourse Grammar», FDG, Hengeveld & Mackenzie 2008, 2009). Purpose: The aim of this paper was to examine the distribution of macular, retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness and optic disc parameters of myopic and hyperopic eyes in comparison with emmetropic control eyes and to investigate their variation according to axial length (AL) and spherical equivalent (SE) in healthy children.
