Valence bands of poly(methylmethacrylate) and photoion emission in vacuum ultraviolet region

1992

Photoion and photoelectron yields were measured for poly(methylmethacrylate) in the photon energy region of 8–40 eV using synchrotron radiation. Further, the valence‐band structure was investigated with ultraviolet photoelectron spectra and valence effective Hamiltonian calculations. A significant difference was observed between the photon energy dependencies of photoion and photoelectron yields. The threshold energy for photoion emission was found to be 10.5 eV, while that for photoelectron emission was 8.5 eV, indicating holes created near the valence‐band top do not contribute to the ion emission. At the higher‐energy region, the ion emission efficiency was found to be enhanced in the ph…

COMMON FIXED POINTS FOR psi-CONTRACTIONS ON PARTIAL METRIC SPACES

2013

We prove some generalized versions of an interesting result of Matthews using conditions of different type in 0-complete partial metric spaces. We give, also, a homotopy result for operators on partial metric spaces.

An existence result for a Neumann problem

2015

The main result of this paper deals with the existence of at least one positive solution for a second order Neumann boundary value problem. Such a result is obtained by using an abstract coincidence point theorem that allows to get our conclusion under non standard conditions on the nonlinearity.

Research trends in the journal Hormones and Behavior (1987-2000).

2003

As a continuation of the study carried out by Svare more than 15 years ago (Horm. Behav. 22 (1988), 139) and to determine the tendencies of the evolution of behavioral endocrinology since then, our aim was to extend his work until 2000, assuming that the journal Hormones and Behavior would be representative of the field at large. To study this 14-year period and compare it with Svare's data, we kept the same criteria and categories, behavioral patterns, and species. Our results show that "sexual behavior" in "rodents" is still the most extensive field studied by behavioral endocrinologists, although frequency of other topics is increasing, above all "aggressive and emotional responses," and…

A 79-year-old-man with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia and unusual pulmonary co-infection

2022

Patients with severe COVID-19 are characterized by local and systemic inflammatory responses, which are responsible for severe acute respiratory failure. Systemic corticosteroids have been used to counteract the inflammatory cascade in severe respiratory patients. The beneficial effect of corticosteroids may be counteracted by adverse effects, including delayed viral clearance and increased risk of secondary infection. In this regard, we describe a case of a 79-year-old man admitted to the Emergency Department of the Palermo Hospital (Italy) because of respiratory failure and pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection who developed Nocardia otitidiscaviarum infection. This case highlights the…

Common fixed points of mappings satisfying implicit relations in partial metric spaces

2013

Matthews, [S. G. Matthews, Partial metric topology, in: Proc. 8th Summer Conference on General Topology and Applications, in: Ann. New York Acad. Sci., vol. 728, 1994, pp. 183-197], introduced and studied the concept of partial metric space, as a part of the study of denotational semantics of dataflow networks. He also obtained a Banach type fixed point theorem on complete partial metric spaces. Very recently Berinde and Vetro, [V. Berinde, F. Vetro, Common fixed points of mappings satisfying implicit contractive conditions, Fixed Point Theory and Applications 2012, 2012:105], discussed, in the setting of metric and ordered metric spaces, coincidence point and common fixed point theorems fo…
