A coincidence-point problem of Perov type on rectangular cone metric spaces

We consider a coincidence-point problem in the setting of rectangular cone metric spaces. Using alpha-admissible mappings and following Perov's approach, we establish some existence and uniqueness results for two self-mappings. Under a compatibility assumption, we also solve a common fixed-point problem.

Geometric interpretation of the optimality conditions in multifacility location and applications

Geometrical optimality conditions are developed for the minisum multifacility location problem involving any norm. These conditions are then used to derive sufficient conditions for coincidence of facilities at optimality; an example is given to show that these coincidence conditions seem difficult to generalize.

Positron preferential annihilation in Bi-Sb alloys

We report the measurements of the positron annihilation characteristics, i.e., positron lifetime and coincidence Doppler broadening spectra performed on five Bi-Sb alloys having a Bi content between 12.5 and 81 at.%. The strong effect of the preferential annihilation of positrons with the electrons of the Bi atoms has been revealed in these alloys.

Calibration and survey of AMANDA with the SPASE detectors

We report on the analysis of air showers observed in coincidence by the Antarctic Muon and Neutrino detector array (AMANDA-B10) and the South Pole Air Shower Experiment (SPASE-1 and SPASE-2). We discuss the use of coincident events for calibration and survey of the deep AMANDA detector as well as the response of AMANDA to muon bundles. This analysis uses data taken during 1997 when both SPASE-1 and SPASE-2 were in operation to provide a stereo view of AMANDA. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The cryogenic anticoincidence detector for ATHENA-XMS: preliminary results from the new prototype

ATHENA has been the re-scoped IXO mission, and one of the foreseen focal plane instrument was the X-ray Microcalorimeter Spectrometer (XMS) working in the energy range 0.3-10 keV, which was a kilo-pixel array based on TES (Transition Edge Sensor) detectors. The need of an anticoincidence (AC) detector is legitimated by the results performed with GEANT4 simulations about the impact of the non x-ray background onto XMS at L2 orbit (REQ. < 0.02 cts/cm2/s/keV). Our consortium has both developed and tested several samples, with increasing area, in order to match the large area of the XMS (64 mm2). Here we show the preliminary results from the last prototype. Fixed point theorems on ordered metric spaces and applications to nonlinear elastic beam equations

In this paper, we establish certain fixed point theorems in metric spaces with a partial ordering. Presented theorems extend and generalize several existing results in the literature. As application, we use the fixed point theorems obtained in this paper to study existence and uniqueness of solutions for fourth-order two-point boundary value problems for elastic beam equations.

Coincidence problems for generalized contractions

In this paper, we establish some new existence, uniqueness and Ulam-Hyers stability theorems for coincidence problems for two single-valued mappings. The main results of this paper extend the results presented in O. Mle?ni?e: Existence and Ulam-Hyers stability results for coincidence problems, J. Non-linear Sci. Appl., 6(2013), 108-116. In the last section two examples of application of these results are also given.

The article discusses twenty tests performed by Valencian artisans to become masters of ―wire work‖ between the years 1508 and 1538. Considered minor works in the area  of silver smithery, these pieces of jewellery  are characterized by  superimposed wire decoration. A peculiarity  of these tests was that  the pieces were not drawn on paper (the common practice for record-keeping purposes), but rather blackened and then stamped on- to paper. As a result, life-size and dated imprints have been preserved. as have the names of the artisans. The ‘grave of the Court Pit’, A rediscovered Bronze Age tomb from Carchemish

This paper examines the British Museum unpublished records related to an Early Bronze (EB) Age pithos burial uncovered a century ago in the Inner Town at Carchemish. The grave, cursorily cited and variously dated (Chalcolithic, EB or even LBA) in the final reports, was described in some detail by Hogarth and Thompson; a precise dating is, however, possible today thanks to the information of paramount importance given by T. E. Lawrence who identified and took a picture of the associated finds, which was recently rediscovered in the Carchemish Archives. With this contribution we would like offer a first and brief approximation about the Hispanic Coin Hoards, roughly dated between the reigns of Augustus and the end of the Tetrarchy. We will focus solely on the imperial hoards found in the Iberian Peninsula.
