Abstract Cold storage may cause changes in the volatile and non-volatile components of orange fruit, in association with the decrement of the characteristic fruit flavour and sensory acceptability. Wine analysis: Study and comparison of techniques developed for the study of volatile constituents

A number of headspace techniques have been compared, using a standard solution containing 12 compounds and a wine sample, viz.: (1) purge and cold trap injection; (2) dynamic headspace combined with liquidliquid extraction; (3) static headspace with and without preconcentration; (4) direct liquid injection. The sensitivity, reproducibility and speed of analysis were determined. Considering the results obtained and dependent on the purpose of the experiments and the number of samples to be examined the appropriate technique can be selected. ?? 1980 Friedr. Thermal inactivation kinetics of Listeria innocua CECT 910 inoculated in a vegetable beverage at three pH conditions (4.25, 4.75, and 5.20), four levels of temperature (50, 55, 60, 65℃), and different treatment times (0–75 min) were obtained. Survival curves did not follow a log-linear relationship and consequently were fitted to various mathematical models: Weibull, Geeraerd, Cerf with shoulder, and the modified Gompertz equation. Holmium(III) Single-Ion Magnet for Cryomagnetic Refrigeration Based on an MRI Contrast Agent Derivative

The coexistence of field-induced blockage of the magnetization and significant magnetocaloric effects in the low-temperature region occurs in a mononuclear holmium(III) diethylenetriamine-N,N,N′,N″,N″-pentaacetate complex, whose gadolinium(III) analogue is a commercial MRI contrast agent. Both properties make it a suitable candidate for cryogenic magnetic refrigeration, thus enlarging the variety of applications of this simple class of multifunctional molecular nanomagnets.
