Assessment of the microbiological quality and wash treatments of lettuce served in University restaurants
2000
Abstract One hundred and forty-four samples of lettuce from 16 University restaurants were analyzed. The mesophilic aerobic counts of all samples ranged from 3.01 to 7.81 log 10 CFU g −1 . Results of total coliforms ranged from 3.38 log 10 most probable number (MPN) g −1 . Of the lettuce samples, 25.7% harbored Escherichia coli , 22.9% Staphylococcus aureus and 84% group D streptococci. Similarly, 10.4% of the samples harbored Aeromonas hydrophila , 2.8% Pseudomonas aeruginosa , and coliforms such as 14.6% Citrobacter freundii , 8.3% Klebsiella pneumoniae , 4.2% Enterobacter cloacae and 1.4% Providencia spp. Salmonella , Shigella and E. coli O157:H7 were not detected. When sodium hypochlori…
STUDI KUANTITAS DAN KUALITAS MATA AIR KOBARI JAYA SEBAGAI SUMBER AIR BAKU DI KABUPATEN SUPIORI PROVINSI PAPUA
2020
A study on the quantity and quality of the Kobari Jaya spring in Supiori Regency has been conducted. Research on the quality test of Kobari Jaya springs has never been conducted. This study uses descriptive methods and laboratory tests and uses a comparative method of test results against the quality standard value based on PERMENKES No. 492 Tahun 2010 tentang Persyaratan Air Minum. The test results show that the average meets quality standards. The instruments used to test water samples include AAS and UVVis spectrophotometer. Several parameters such as pH, COD, BOD, DO, Phosphate, Fecal Coliform and Total Coliform exceed the predetermined quality standard values. The cause of this high pa…
Relative Frequencies and Significance of Faecal Coliforms as Indicators Related to Water Temperature
1983
Summary The faecal coliforms at different sites of a hypereutrophic lake near Valencia (Albufera) were identified and their relative amounts established along an annual cycle. Using lauryl tryptose broth at 35°C, followed by incubation at 44.4°C in 2% brilliant green bile, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae are practically the only coliforms present. A positive correlation was found between the water temperature and the relative amount of these two coliforms: K. pneumoniae predominates at high water temperatures, whereas E. coli shows preponderance during the cold period. The role of K. pneumoniae as the only faecal indicator under the circumstances described in the work is emphasiz…
An environmental study by factor analysis of surface seawaters in the Gulf of Valencia (Western Mediterranean)
1999
Abstract A study is made on the quality of coastal waters in the Gulf of Valencia (Spain) in terms of contamination markers including microbiological agents, toxic heavy metals and nutrients that adversely affect the environment. Relationships are also established between these factors and other physical and chemical parameters. A multivariate analysis is conducted where a total of 14 parameters are established for 919 water samples corresponding to 52 sampling points along the coast of the province of Valencia – specifically, total and fecal coliforms, fecal streptococci, Ni(II), Zn(II), Pb(II), Cd(II), Cu(II) and Cr(VI) concentrations, nitrates, phosphates, dissolved oxygen and finally pH…
Effect of seasonality on physico-chemical and microbiological properties of nicastrese milk and artisanal cheese
2021
ABSTRACT Nicastrese is an indigenous Italian goat breed reared in the Calabria region under semi-extensive practices. From January to June, the milk yield of 400 multiparous Nicastrese goats was evaluated. In addition, tank milk and ripened cheese samples were subjected to physico-chemical and microbiological analyses with the aim to assess the effect of the seasonality on quality parameters. The volatile organic compounds profile of the ripened Nicastrese cheese samples was evaluated. Results showed that the seasonality had a significant effect on milk fat, lactose, urea, citric acid contents and acidity. Microbiological analysis of tank milk samples revealed variability among the differen…
