Financing successful small business projects
2014
Purpose – The current credit rationing strongly influences the viability of SMEs innovation projects. In this context, the practice of screening borrowers by project success probability has become a paramount consideration for both lenders and firms. The aim of this paper is to test the screening role of loan contracts that consider collateral-interest margins simultaneously. Design/methodology/approach – This paper presents an empirical analysis that uses a unique data set composed of 323 bank loans granted by 28 banks to SMEs backed by a Spanish Mutual Guarantee Institution. Findings – The results show that appropriate combinations of collateral and interest rates can distinguish between…
Retrograde Chronic Total Occlusion Percutaneous Coronary Interventions: Predictors of Procedural Success From the ERCTO Registry
2022
Objectives: The aim of this study was to identify independent predictors of procedural success after retrograde chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Background: Retrograde CTO PCI is an established technique, but predictors of success remain poorly understood. Methods: A multivariable logistic regression model was used to analyze potentially important demographic, clinical, anatomical, and technical aspects of retrograde CTO PCI cases uploaded to the multicenter European CTO (ERCTO) Club Registry. Results: In calendar years 2018 and 2019, 2,364 retrograde CTO PCI cases constituted the primary analysis cohort. A primary retrograde strategy was used in 1,953…
Structural reforms in a debt overhang
2014
We assess the effects of reforms in product and labor markets in a model economy featuring credit restrictions and pre-existing long-term debt. Both elements, which are core features of the current scenario faced by some euro area countries, combine to produce a slow and protracted deleveraging of the private sector and a persistent recession following a negative financial shock. In this environment, we show that product and labor market reforms may stimulate output and employment even in the short run, despite their defl ationary effects. Furthermore, by favoring a faster recovery of investment and collateral values, product market reforms bring forward the end of deleveraging and the exit…

Klassifikation und Therapie von Endolecks nach endovaskulärer Behandlung von abdominellen Aortenaneurysmen
2005
This article describes the classification of endoleaks after endovascular treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms, thereby summarizing the most important problems of this endovascular technique. The correct classification of endoleaks is a prerequisite for interdisciplinary discussion. It is indispensable for professional reporting of the pathological findings and for the decision making as to the adequate treatment of endoleaks. Irrespective of the types of stent graft and property of the material, five endoleak types are defined in the literature: leakage at the anchor sites (type I); leakage due to collateral arteries (type II); defective stent grafts (type III); leakage due to porosity …
Collateral Sensitivity in Drug-Resistant Tumor Cells
2013
Collateral sensitivity is a term for the hypersensitivity of otherwise drug-resistant cells. The selective killing of tumor cells by drugs exerting collateral sensitivity might be used as a novel treatment strategy. In this chapter, we give an overview on drug resistance phenotypes with known collateral sensitivities; furthermore, their molecular and cellular mechanisms were discussed to explain mediation of these hypersensitivities.
Radial Head Fractures
2014
Radial head fractures are the most common elbow fractures, accounting for 20–30 %. Typically, the fractures evolve from a fall on the outstretched hand with the elbow extended and the forearm in pronation. The role of the radial head as an important stabilizer of the elbow joint has been recognized in the last decade. Sixty percent of the axial load transmitted through the elbow is conducted through the radial head. Furthermore, the radial head is an important stabilizer against valgus stresses. While the medial collateral ligament (MCL) is the primary stabilizer against valgus stress, the role of the radial head emerges when the MCL is torn. These findings have led to a change in treatment…
Increased Severe Adverse Outcomes and Decreased Emergency Room Visits for Pyelonephritis: First Report of Collateral Damage during COVID-19 Pandemic …
2020
Purpose: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is disrupting urology health-care worldwide. Reduced emergency room visits resulting in adverse outcomes have most recently been reported in pediatrics and cardiology. We aimed to compare patients with emergency room visits for pyelonephritis in 2019 (pre-COVID-19 era) and within the first wave of pandemic in 2020 (COVID-19 era) with regard to the number of visits and severe adverse disease outcomes. Methods: We performed a retrospective multicentre study comparing characteristics and outcomes of patients with pyelonephritis, excluding patients with hydroneph…
Anatomia e biomeccanica del posterolateral corner del ginocchio
2009
“Dark side of the knee”: letteralmente, lato oscuro del ginocchio.
Compliance to therapy with Dapoxetine in patients affected by Premature Ejaculation
2012
Introduction Premature ejaculation (PE) is a sexual dysfunction with high prevalence. According to some reports, it is present in about 20-30% of the male population. Since 2009 PE has been treated with a novel inhibitor of serotonin re-uptake, Dapoxetine, which has been reported to be specifically active for PE. Materials and Methods 59 patients have been selected among the patients affected by PE observed at the outpatient department of Urology and Andrology of the “Paolo Giaccone” University Policlinic Hospital of Palermo. Diagnosis was confirmed unequivocally in all patients, who were suitable for drug treatment and accepted to participate in the study. They were divided in 2 groups: on…
