Precise Measurement of the D0 and D+ Lifetimes at Belle II

2021

We report a measurement of the D^{0} and D^{+} lifetimes using D^{0}→K^{-}π^{+} and D^{+}→K^{-}π^{+}π^{+} decays reconstructed in e^{+}e^{-}→cc[over ¯] data recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. The data, collected at center-of-mass energies at or near the ϒ(4S) resonance, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 72  fb^{-1}. The results, τ(D^{0})=410.5±1.1(stat)±0.8(syst)  fs and τ(D^{+})=1030.4±4.7(stat)±3.1(syst)  fs, are the most precise to date and are consistent with previous determinations.

Measurements of Born cross sections of e+e−→Ds*+DsJ−+c.c.

2021

The Born cross sections are measured for the first time for the processes $e^+e^-\to D_s^{*+}D_{s0}^*(2317)^- +c.c.$ and $e^+e^-\to D_s^{*+}D_{s1}(2460)^- +c.c.$ at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=$ 4.600~GeV, 4.612~GeV, 4.626~GeV, 4.640~GeV, 4.660~GeV, 4.68~GeV, and 4.700~GeV, and for $e^+e^-\to D_s^{*+}D_{s1}(2536)^- +c.c.$ at $\sqrt{s}=$ 4.660~GeV, 4.680~GeV, and 4.700~GeV, using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. No structures are observed in cross-section distributions for any of the processes.

Inclusive cross section and double-helicity asymmetry forπ0production at midrapidity inp+pcollisions ats=510  GeV

2016

PHENIX measurements are presented for the cross section and double-helicity asymmetry (A(LL)) in inclusive pi(0) production at midrapidity from p + p collisions at root s = 510 GeV from data taken in 2012 and 2013 at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The next-to-leading-order perturbative-quantum-chromodynamics theory calculation is in excellent agreement with the presented cross section results. The calculation utilized parton-to-pion fragmentation functions from the recent DSS14 global analysis, which prefer a smaller gluon-to-pion fragmentation function. The pi(0)A(LL) results follow an increasingly positive asymmetry trend with p(T) and root s with respect to the predictions and are …

Study of DirectCPViolation inB±→J/ψK±(π±)Decays

2008

We present a search for direct CP violation in $B^{\pm} \to J/\psi K^{\pm}(\pi^{\pm})$ decays. The event sample is selected from 2.8 fb$^{-1}$ of $p\bar{p}$ collisions recorded by D0 experiment in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The charge asymmetry $A_{CP}(B^+ \to J/\psi K^+) = +0.0075 \pm 0.0061$(stat.)$\pm 0.0027$(syst.) is obtained using a sample of approximately 40 thousand $B^{\pm} \to J/\psi K^{\pm}$ decays. The achieved precision is of the same level as the expected deviation predicted by some extensions of the standard model. We also measured the charge asymmetry $A_{CP}(B^+ \to J/\psi \pi^+) = -0.09 \pm 0.08$(stat.)$\pm 0.03$(syst.).

Determination of Strong-Phase Parameters in D→KS,L0π+π−

2020

We report the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters between D^{0} and D[over ¯]^{0} decays to K_{S,L}^{0}π^{+}π^{-} using a sample of 2.93  fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Our results provide the key inputs for a binned model-independent determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γ/ϕ_{3} with B decays. Using our results, the decay model sensitivity to the γ/ϕ_{3} measurement is expected to be between 0.7° and 1.2°, approximately a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements, based on the studies of the simulated data. The…

Search forD0−D¯0Mixing and a Measurement of the Doubly Cabibbo-Suppressed Decay Rate inD0→KπDecays

2003

The authors present a search for D{sup 0}-{bar D}{sup 0} mixing using regions of phase space in which the rate of doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup 0} relative to Cabibbo-favored decays D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup -} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup 0} is reduced. They analyze 230.4 fb{sup -1} of data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} collider at SLAC. They present results with and without the assumption of CP conservation. Assuming CP conservation, they measure the time-integrated mixing rate R{sub M} = (0.023{sub -0.014}{sup +0.018}(stat.) {+-} 0.004(syst.))%, and R{sub M} < 0.054% at the 95% confidence level. They find that the d…

Multipole compensation scheme for LHC low-beta insertions

1997

The LHC dynamic aperture in Physics conditions is determined by the field errors in the low-b quadrupoles and these errors set a lower limit to the value of b*. The associated aberrations have been computed with the transfer matrix method which gives particularly simple and efficient formulae for the case of low-b insertions. These formulae have been applied to the LHC case to design a multipole compensation system. The efficiency of the method has been assessed by trajectory tracking.

Monte Carlo model for nuclear collisions from SPS to LHC energies

2001

A Monte Carlo model to simulate nuclear collisions in the energy range going from SPS to LHC, is presented. The model includes in its initial stage both soft and semihard components, which lead to the formation of color strings. Collectivity is taken into account considering the possibility of strings in color representations higher than triplet or antitriplet, by means of string fusion. String breaking leads to the production of secondaries. At this point, the model can be used as initial condition for further evolution by a transport model. In order to tune the parameters and see the results in nucleus-nucleus collisions, a naif model for rescattering of secondaries is introduced. Results…

Probing new neutral gauge bosons with CEvNS and neutrino-electron scattering

2020

The potential for probing extra neutral gauge boson mediators ($Z^\prime$) from low-energy measurements is comprehensively explored. Our study mainly focuses on $Z^\prime$ mediators present in string-inspired $E_6$ models and left-right symmetry. We estimate the sensitivities of coherent-elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CE$\nu$NS) and neutrino-electron scattering experiments. Our results indicate that such low-energy high-intensity measurements can provide a valuable probe, complementary to high-energy collider searches and electroweak precision measurements.

Search for a heavy charged boson in events with a charged lepton and missing transverse momentum from pp collisions at s=13  TeV with the ATLAS detec…

2019

A search for a heavy charged-boson resonance decaying into a charged lepton (electron or muon) and a neutrino is reported. A data sample of 139  fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at √s=13  TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2015–2018 is used in the search. The observed transverse mass distribution computed from the lepton and missing transverse momenta is consistent with the distribution expected from the Standard Model, and upper limits on the cross section for pp→W′→lν are extracted (l=e or μ). These vary between 1.3 pb and 0.05 fb depending on the resonance mass in the range between 0.15 and 7.0 TeV at 95% confidence level for the electron and muon channels combined. …
