Measurement of the ratio of inclusive cross sectionsσ(pp¯→Z+2b jets /σ(pp¯→Z+2 jets)inpp¯collisions ats=1.96  TeV

In this study, we measure the ratio of cross sections, σ(pp¯ → Z + 2 b jets)/σ(pp¯ → Z + 2 jets), for associated production of a Z boson with at least two jets with transverse momentum pjetT > 20 GeV and pseudorapidity |ηjet| < 2.5. This measurement uses data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.7 fb–1 collected by the D0 experiment in Run II of Fermilab’s Tevatron pp¯ Collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The measured integrated ratio of 0.0236 ± 0.0032(stat) ± 0.0035(syst) is in agreement with predictions from next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD and the Monte Carlo event generators PYTHIA and ALPGEN.

Prospects of conventional and exotic bottomonium physics at Belle II

2018

Abstract Belle II is a next generation B-factory experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. In early 2019 the fully operational detector will start taking data. The goal is to collect an integrated luminosity of 50 ab -1 , a statistics 50 times larger than the one collected by its predecessor Belle. Belle II offers the most promising prospects for bottomonium physics in the next decade, since experimentally only high-luminosity e + e - colliders can collect enough statistics to fully exploit the potential of this sector. The current status of the experiment will be presented, together with the perspectives for studies of conventional and exotic quarkonium-like states.

Measurement of the W→τντ cross section in pp collisions at s=7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment

The cross section for the production of W bosons with subsequent decay W to tau nu is measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The analysis is based on a data sample that was recorded in 2010 at a proton-proton center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 34 pb^-1. The cross section is measured in a region of high detector acceptance and then extrapolated to the full phase space. The product of the total W production cross section and the W to tau nu branching ratio is measured to be 11.1 +/- 0.3 (stat) +/- 1.7 (syst) +/- 0.4 (lumi) nb.

Search for high-mass dilepton resonances using 139 fb−1 of pp collision data collected at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A search for high-mass dielectron and dimuon resonances in the mass range of 250 GeV to 6 TeV is presented. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb −1 . A functional form is fitted to the dilepton invariant-mass distribution to model the contribution from background processes, and a generic signal shape is used to determine the significance of observed deviations from this background estimate. Search for a heavy narrow resonance decaying to eμ, eτ, or μτ with the ATLAS detector in s=7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC

This Letter presents the results of a search for a heavy particle decaying into an e^±μ^∓e^±μ^∓, or μ^±τ^∓ final state in pp collisions at View the MathML sources=7 TeV. The data were recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2011 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb−14.6 fb^(−1). No significant excess above the Standard Model expectation is observed, and exclusions at 95% confidence level are placed on the cross section times branching ratio for the production of an R-parity-violating supersymmetric tau sneutrino. This paper presents a measurement of the W+W- production cross section in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV. The leptonic decay channels are analyzed using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4: 6 fb(-1) collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The W+W- production cross section sigma(pp -> W+W- + X) is measured to be 51.9 +/- 2.0(stat) +/- 3.9(syst) +/- 2.0(lumi) pb, compatible with the Standard Model prediction of 44.7(-1.9)(+2.1) pb. ATLAS results and prospects with focus on beyond the Standard Model

Abstract A summary of results relevant for searches of phenomena beyond the Standard Model (SM) obtained by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC is presented. While all SM measurements can be considered as indirect searches, the focus will be set on direct searches and measurements interpreted as limits on phenomena beyond the SM. Prospects towards Run 3 and High Luminosity LHC are reported where available. Most results are based on an integrated luminosity of 36 fb−1 at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV.

Measurement of the combined rapidity and pT dependence of dijet azimuthal decorrelations in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

We present the first combined measurement of the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of dijet azimuthal decorrelations, using the recently proposed quantity R-Delta phi. The variable R-Delta phi measures the fraction of the inclusive dijet events in which the azimuthal separation of the two jets with the highest transverse momenta is less than a specified value of the parameter Delta phi(max). The quantity R-Delta phi is measured in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV, as a function of the dijet rapidity interval, the total scalar transverse momentum, and Delta phi(max). Impact of Energy and Luminosity upgrades at LHC on the Physics program of ATLAS

The impact on the physics capabilities of the ATLAS detector of possible LHC upgrades is discussed. As a benchmark, an increase in the luminosity by a factor of ten is considered. For comparison, a doubling of the LHC energy is also explored. Both upgrades significantly enhance the physics capabilities of ATLAS. As measured in terms of the mass reach for new particles, the energy upgrade is more powerful. However, in cases where the effect of an upgrade is to increase the precision of measurements as a result of the larger data samples, the luminosity upgrade can be at least as powerful. Measurement of the centrality dependence of J/ψ yields and observation of Z production in lead–lead collisions with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

Using the ATLAS detector, a centrality-dependent suppression has been observed in the yield of J/psi mesons produced in the collisions of lead ions at the Large Hadron Collider. In a sample of minimum-bias lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre of mass energy root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 6.7 mu b(-1), J/psi mesons are reconstructed via their decays to mu(+)mu(-) pairs. The measured J/psi yield, normalized to the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions, is found to significantly decrease from peripheral to central collisions.
