Activity and Rotation in the Young Cluster h Per

2013

We study the stellar rotation-activity relation in the crucial age at which stars reach the fastest rotation. To this aim we have analyzed data of the young cluster h Per, very rich and compact, located at 2300 pc, that at an age of 13 Myr should be mainly composed of stars that have ended their contraction phase and that have not lost significant angular momentum viamagnetic breaking. To constrain the activity level of h Per members we have analyzed a deep Chandra/ACIS-I observation. Rotational periods of h Per members have been derived by Moraux et al. (2013) in the framework of the MONITOR project (Aigrain et al. 2007; Irwin et al. 2007). In the Chandra observation we have detected 1010 …

Bayesian estimation of the specific shear and bulk viscosity of the quark-gluon plasma with additional flow harmonic observables

2021

The transport properties of the strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions are extracted by Bayesian parameter estimate methods with the latest collision beam energy data from the CERN Large Hadron Collider. This Bayesian analysis includes sophisticated flow harmonic observables for the first time. We found that the temperature dependence of specific shear viscosity appears weaker than in the previous studies. The results prefer a lower value of specific bulk viscosity and a higher switching temperature to reproduce additional observables. However, the improved statistical uncertainties both on the experimental data and hydrodynamic calculations wi…

Emission of thermal dileptons in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions

1991

Abstract The emission of thermal dileptons from a quark-gluon plasma and hot pion gas formed in a collision of heavy nuclei, is studied in the framework of hydrodynamics. Thermal rates are compared with the estimates of rates for Drell-Yan production. Dependence on the mass number and impact parameter of colliding nuclei, and the collision energy is considered.

On the momentum dependence ofJ/? suppression

1988

The formation of deconfined matter in high energy collisions is expected to result in reducedJ/ψ production. The finite space-time extension of any quark-gluon plasma thus produced leads to a rather characteristic dependence ofJ/ψ suppression on the longitudinal and transverse momentum of theJ/ψ. We study in particular the longitudinal momentum dependence and discuss its implications for nuclear collision experiments.

Energy-exchange collision of the Manakov vector solitons under strong environmental perturbations

2007

International audience; We use a collective-variable approach to study the dynamical behavior of vector solitons in the Manakov system under strong environmental perturbations induced by the fiber losses and a modified cross-phase modulation parameter. We identify and discuss the salient features associated with energy-exchange collisions of transmissional and reflectional types. Particularly, we find that such perturbations can induce important effects not only on fundamental soliton parameters such as the peak power, central position, width, chirp, and frequency, but also on the nature of the collision. Interestingly, we find that the perturbations lead to only a slight alteration of coll…

Longitudinal dynamics of multiple conserved charges

2021

Abstract It is the goal of the RHIC BES program and the future FAIR and NICA facilities to produce compressed baryonic matter. In experiments such as these, strong gradients in baryon density are expected, and therefore the diffusion of baryon number could play a major role in the description of the fireball. The constituents of the produced matter carry a multitude of conserved charges, namely the baryon number, strangeness and electric charge, so that the diffusion currents of conserved charge couple with each other. Therefore, baryon density gradients in the above-mentioned high-density collision experiments will generate equalizing currents in all conserved charges. In common fluid dyna…
