Optimized Class-Separability in Hyperspectral Images

2016

International audience; Image visualization techniques are mostly based on three bands as RGB color composite channels for human eye to characterize the scene. This, however, is not effective in case of hyper-spectral images (HSI) because they contain dozens of informative spectral bands. To eliminate redundancy of spectral information among these bands, dimensionality reduction (DR) is applied while at the same trying to retain maximum information. In this paper, we propose a new method of information-preserved hyper-spectral satellite image visualization that is based on fusion of unsupervised band selection techniques and color matching function (CMF) stretching. The results show consist…

A Segmentation System for Soccer Robot Based on Neural Networks

2000

An innovative technique for segmentation of color images is proposed. The technique implements an approach based on thresholding of the hue histogram and a feed-forward neural network that learns to recognize the hue ranges of meaningful objects. A new function for detecting valleys of the histogram has been devised and tested. A novel blurring algorithm for noise reduction that works effectively when used over hue image has been employed. The reported experimental results show that the technique is reliable and robust even in presence of changing environmental conditions. Extended experimentation has been carried on the framework of the Robot Soccer World Cup Initiative (RoboCup).

Distinguishing Onion Leaves from Weed Leaves Based on Segmentation of Color Images and a BP Neural Network

2006

A new algorithm to distinguish onion leaves from weed leaves in images is suggested. This algorithm is based on segmentation of color images and on BP neural network. It includes: discarding soil for conserving only plants in the image, color image segmentation, merging small regions by analyzing the frontier rates and the averages of color indices of the regions, at last a BP neural network is used to determine if the small regions belongs to onion leaf or not. The algorithm has been applied to many images and the correct identifiable percents for onion leaves are between 80%~ 90%.

Assessment of the Potential future high and medium resolution sensors on geosynchronous orbit for coastal zone monitoring

2009

Geosynchronous satellite can measure any area with high temporal repetitivity within its coverage region because of its relative static location compared to Earth. Considering the temporal repetitivity, it can satisfy requirements for coastal zone monitoring but also has to face the influence of the varying solar angle and sensor angle (zenith and azimuth). Up to now, there is no geosynchronous sensor dedicated to ocean color monitoring (a geosynchronous sensor "Korea Geostationary Ocean Color Imager" (KGOCI) is supposed to be launched in 2009 [1]). To obtain radiances from the ocean at 36000km of altitude, we have to use a simulation model. In this conference, we present generic model of s…

Restoration of out-of-focus images based on circle of confusion estimate

2002

In this paper a new method for a fast out-of-focus blur estimation and restoration is proposed. It is suitable for CFA (Color Filter Array) images acquired by typical CCD/CMOS sensor. The method is based on the analysis of a single image and consists of two steps: 1) out-of-focus blur estimation via Bayer pattern analysis; 2) image restoration. Blur estimation is based on a block-wise edge detection technique. This edge detection is carried out on the green pixels of the CFA sensor image also called Bayer pattern. Once the blur level has been estimated the image is restored through the application of a new inverse filtering technique. This algorithm gives sharp images reducing ringing and c…

LASCA and PPG imaging for non-contact assessment of skin blood supply

2013

Laser speckle contrast analysis (LASCA) offers a non-contact, full-field, and real-time mapping of capillary blood flow and can be considered as an alternative method to Laser Doppler perfusion imaging (LDPI). Photoplethysmography (PPG) is well known technique for assessment of skin blood pulsations that can be related to blood flow. In recent years several studies have been done on development of non-contact PPG imaging (PPGI). LASCA and PPGI techniques are simpler and cheaper compared with LDPI. LASCA technique has been implemented in several commercial instruments. However, these systems are still too expensive and bulky to be widely available. Several optical techniques have found new i…

Multichannel single-output color pattern recognition by use of a joint-transform correlator.

1996

A novel method for performing color image recognition by the use of the coherent joint-transform correlator is introduced. The input plane of the proposed method is a spatial rearrangement of the separation into color channels of both the color input scene and the color target. This input plane is gray scaled and monochromatic, thus it can be displayed by the use of amplitude spatial light modulators to achieve real-time operation. The system provides a single output-plane result of the optical coherent addition of the separate channels’ correlation outputs. At the output plane no electronic postprocessing is needed, and the detection decision is achieved simply by the application of thresh…

Multi-channel chromatic transformations for nonlinear color pattern recognition

2002

We present a new approach for color pattern recognition based on multi-channel nonlinear correlations. High discrimination capability is obtained in comparison with common linear multi-channel detection methods. We apply the nonlinear morphological correlation to different color channel decompositions as RGB and ATD channels. Moreover, in order to improve the discrimination we have introduced a new color transformation. When a high selectivity is required, the combination of the nonlinear correlation and the new color decomposition yields to detect the object using just a single channel. Simulation results are provided.

A Gamut Preserving Color Image Quantization

2007

International audience; We propose a new approach for color image quantization which preserves the shape of the color gamut of the studied image. Quantization consists to find a set of color representative of the color distribution of the image. We are looking here for an optimal LUT (look up table) which contains information on the image's gamut and on the color distribution of this image. The main motivation of this work is to control the reproduction of color images on different output devices in order to have the same color feeling, coupling intrinsic informations on the image gamut and output device calibration. We have developped a color quantization algorithm based on an image depend…

A Combinatorial Color Edge Detector

2004

In this paper, we present an edge detection approach in color image using neighborhood hypergraph. The edge structure is detected by a structural model. The Color Image Neighborhood Hypergraph (CINH) representation is first computed, then the hyperedges of CINH are classified into noise or edge based on hypergraph properties. To evaluate the algorithm performance, experiments were carried out on synthetic and real color images corrupted by alpha-stable noise. The results show that the proposed edge detector finds the edges properly from color images.
