Top-seesaw assisted technicolor model with 126 GeV Higgs boson

2013

We discuss a model which involves the top quark condensation and the walking technicolor. We focus on the scalar boson in such a model from the viewpoint of the observed scalar boson at the LHC.

A Tensorial Formalism Adapted to the Rovibronic Couplings in the Colored Hexafluorides: Application to the nu(5)(F(2g)) and nu(3)(F(1u)) Modes.

2000

A tensorial formalism adapted to the case of transition-metal hexafluorides in a degenerate electronic state has been developed on the basis of preceding works about spherical-top molecules in a nondegenerate electronic state. We have introduced electronic operators constructed using group theory features and some physical considerations. Vibronic couplings (Jahn-Teller effect, etc.) have been reviewed for the triply degenerate vibrational modes nu(5)(F(2g)) and nu(3)(F(1u)) leading to the identification of the main vibronic parameters. For the first time, an effective rovibronic Hamiltonian as well as the effective transition moment operators (dipole moment and polarizability) for rovibron…

Correlation dimension and affinity of AE data and bicolored noise

1993

This paper is concerned with the general question of the dynamics of the magnetosphere. In general, to solve the dynamics of the magnetosphere one has to solve magnetohydrodynamic equations with some appropriate set of boundary conditions. This results in a very complex solution, which gives indications of being chaotic. The question of the chaotic nature of the magnetospheric dynamics has been addressed by various authors by looking at the correlation dimension of the auroral electrojet index. There has been disagreement on the outcome of such experiments, so the authors report on a detailed analysis of the auroral electrojet index time series. They find a correlation dimension of 3.4. For…

Stabilizing effect of driving and dissipation on quantum metastable states

2018

We investigate how the combined effects of strong Ohmic dissipation and monochromatic driving affect the stability of a quantum system with a metastable state. We find that, by increasing the coupling with the environment, the escape time makes a transition from a regime in which it is substantially controlled by the driving, displaying resonant peaks and dips, to a regime of frequency-independent escape time with a peak followed by a steep falloff. The escape time from the metastable state has a nonmonotonic behavior as a function of the thermal-bath coupling, the temperature, and the frequency of the driving. The quantum noise-enhanced stability phenomenon is observed in the investigated …

Implementing consistent NLO factorization in single inclusive forward hadron production

2017

Single inclusive forward hadron production in high-energy hadron collisions can provide an important test of the Color Glass Condensate picture at small $x$. Recent studies of this process at next-to-leading order have led to problematic results, with cross sections becoming negative at large transverse momenta. We study a new formulation of this quantity proposed recently by Iancu et al. We show that it leads to physical results up to large transverse momenta at fixed coupling. Taking into account running coupling effects in a way that is consistent with existing DIS calculations still poses a challenge.

Solving the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation at next to leading order accuracy

2016

We solve the Balitsky-Kovchegov small-x evolution equation in coordinate space. We find that the solution to the equation is unstable when using an initial condition relevant for phenomenological applications at leading order. The problematic behavior is shown to be due to a large double logarithmic contribution. The same problem is found when the evolution of the “conformal dipole” is solved, even though the double logarithmic term is then absent from the evolution equation.

Noise effects in two different biological systems

2009

We investigate the role of the colored noise in two biological systems: (i) adults of Nezara viridula (L.) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae), and (ii) polymer translocation. In the first system we analyze, by directionality tests, the response of N. viridula individuals to subthreshold signals plus noise in their mating behaviour. The percentage of insects that react to the subthreshold signal shows a nonmonotonic behaviour, characterized by the presence of a maximum, as a function of the noise intensity. This is the signature of the non-dynamical stochastic resonance phenomenon. By using a “soft” threshold model we find that the maximum of the input-output cross correlation occurs in the same ra…

Dynamics of a FitzHugh-Nagumo system subjected to autocorrelated noise

2008

We analyze the dynamics of the FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) model in the presence of colored noise and a periodic signal. Two cases are considered: (i) the dynamics of the membrane potential is affected by the noise, (ii) the slow dynamics of the recovery variable is subject to noise. We investigate the role of the colored noise on the neuron dynamics by the mean response time (MRT) of the neuron. We find meaningful modifications of the resonant activation (RA) and noise enhanced stability (NES) phenomena due to the correlation time of the noise. For strongly correlated noise we observe suppression of NES effect and persistence of RA phenomenon, with an efficiency enhancement of the neuronal respo…

Fractal square zone plates

2013

[EN] In this paper we present a novel family of zone plates with a fractal distribution of square zones. The focusing properties of these fractal diffractive lenses coined fractal square zone plates are analytically studied and the influence of the fractality is investigated. It is shown that under monochromatic illumination a fractal square zone plate gives rise a focal volume containing a delimited sequence of two-arms-cross pattern that are axially distributed according to the self-similarity of the lens.
