Mapping the Amplitude and Position Response of Double Sided Silicon Strip Detectors with Monocromatic Single Protons

2012

International audience; We are currently developing a novel detection system featuring high angular and energy resolution and able to reconstruct the particles momentum at high precision for different physical cases in multi-fragmentation nuclear physics experiments, based on Double Sided Silicon Strip Detectors as ΔE stages aimed at performing also pulse shape analysis for fragments stopping therein. We carried out a detailed qualification of the performance of the strip detectors. In order to provide the detector response matrix we used a pulsed monoenergetic proton beam. The paper reviews the pulsed proton beam facility of the LaBeC of INFN - Sezione di Firenze and present the results of…

Scaling violation in the infinite-momentum frame

1978

The theory of scaling violation is studied in asymptotically free gauge theories formulated in the infinite-momentum frame. The transition probabilities occurring in the equation governing the q/sup 2/ dependence of the parton distributions are calculated directly. The equivalence of this formalism for the longitudinal parton distributions with the usual one based on the operator-product expansion is demonstrated. The assets of our method are calculational simplicity and reference to physical intuition.

Influencia del modelo de ojo teórico en la evaluación numérica de lentes intraoculares fractales

2020

In this work we present the numerical evaluation of a new design of fractal intraocular lens studied through a ray-tracing program. To determine the monochromatic and polychromatic performance of these lenses in different theoretical model eyes the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) and the area above the MTF (AMTF) have been used. These merit functions show the same behavior for different values of asphericity (Q), independently from the theoretical model eye, even though there are differences due to the Spherical Aberration (SA) considered in each model.

Magnetostochastic resonance under colored noise condition

2012

Stochastic resonance (SR) is an amplification of the system output in correspondence of well-defined finite values of the noise strength that is injected into the system [Gammaitoni et al., Rev. Mod. Phys. 70, 223 (1998), Grigorenko et al., IEEE Trans. Magn. 31, 2491 (1995), Mantegna et al., J. Appl. Phys. 97, 10E519 (2005)]. In order to clarify the influence of a colored noise, in this paper magnetostochastic resonance (MSR) in magnetic systems described by the dynamic Preisach model is numerically investigated in the presence of colored noise. In this paper it is shown that: a) noise spectrum affects MSR; b) white noise, 1/f and 1/f(2) noise induce in magnetic systems described by the dyn…

Viability of light-Higgs strongly-coupled scenarios

2013

Contrary to what is sometimes stated, the current electroweak precision data easily allow for massive composite resonance states at the natural EW scale, i.e., well over the TeV. The oblique parameters S and T are analyzed by means of an effective Lagrangian that implements the $SU(2)_L\otimes SU(2)_R\to SU(2)_{L+R}$ pattern of electroweak symmetry breaking. They are computed at the one-loop level and incorporating the newly discovered Higgs-like boson and possible spin-1 composite resonances. Imposing a proper ultraviolet behaviour is crucial and allows us to determine S and T at next-to-leading order in terms of a few resonance parameters. Electroweak precision data force the vector and a…

Breaking Symmetry Effects on Heavy Tetraquarks

2017

In this contribution we present symmetry arguments that can be applied to study the stability of four-quark systems with two different masses. The role played by different symmetry breaking effects and the non-Abelian algebra of color forces is discussed in detail. In the particular case of hidden-flavor all-heavy four-quark states, QQ (Q) over bar(Q) over bar, the system becomes unstable for standard color-additive models. Differences and similarities between Qq (Q) over bar(q) over bar and QQ (q) over bar(q) over bar configurations are presented. In the latter case, its stability when the mass ratio M/m increases was established almost forty years ago. In the former case, we find a kind o…

Red-green flicker resolution as a function of heterochromatic luminous modulation.

1993

Critical fusion frequencies have been evaluated in heterochromatic red-green flicker as a function of red-green luminous modulation defined by mL = (R-G)/(R+G)%, at five different mean luminance levels, two test sizes (2 degrees and 5 degrees) and square wave stimuli. The extreme values mL = +/- 100 correspond to ordinary light-dark flicker (red or green); mL = 0 corresponds to pure chromatic flicker, and any other values correspond to simultaneous luminous and chromatic flicker. To implement the stimuli we have developed a new stimuli generator (AVICO, colour vision analyser) using bicolour LEDs as the light source and electronic control of the luminances and frequencies. The results for a…

Real-time optical spectrum analyzers operating with spectrally incoherent broadband continuous-wave light source

2007

On the framework of coherence theory we discuss the averaged temporal intensity output provided by real-time optical Fourier transformers when the spectral line shape of the stationary source is considered. Some numerical examples are given and the deviations from perfectly monochromatic sources are pointed out.

Single-output color pattern recognition using a fractional correlator

1997

A novel method for performing color image pattern recogni- tion using a fractional correlator (FC) is proposed. The input plane is illuminated with three different coherent sources of wavelengths corre- sponding to RGB (red, green, and blue) colors. The output plane pro- vides a single output peak, which is a result of an incoherent addition between the three correlations obtained per each color. By using the fractional correlator, which is a partially space variant correlator, we achieve space-variance-controlled color pattern recognition. The use of the three-color illumination can drastically increase the discrimination ability of the suggested correlator. © 1997 Society of Photo-Optical…

Tunable liquid lens equipped virtual reality adapter for scientific, medical, and therapeutic goals

2018

We adapted virtual reality appliances to use them in scientific medical diagnostics and therapeutic aims by incorporated as part of appliance ocular system two electrically tunable Optotune liquid lenses, controllable by computer USB ports within 20D range. In present time we used the appliance to investigate the mono- and/or binocularly illusory perception dominances (Shapiro and al;2008), nonlinearities caused by controversial Gestalt recognition of motion. Back layer of stimuli elements contained internal motion sources - clockwise spinning disk on neutral background. Disk consisted of centrosymmetric radial rays which luminance was sinus mode modulated along the disc circumference. Spin…
