Context: There is increasing evidence that Vitamin D (Vit D) and its metabolites, besides their well-known calcium-related functions, may also exert antiproliferative, pro-differentiating, and immune modulatory effects on tumor cells in vitro and may also delay tumor growth in vivo. Epidemiological data on synchronous and metachronous metastatic colon cancer are scarce. We assessed epidemiological characteristics and survival in synchronous and metachronous metastatic colon cancer in a French population.Our study included 932 cases of metastatic colon cancer diagnosed in 1999-2010 and registered in a population-based cancer registry; 758 were synchronous colon metastases and 174 metachronous metastases from resected primary colon cancers diagnosed in 1999-2005. Such mutations have been widely studied in case series from Western countries but there are few data on the rate and spectrum of mutations in tumors from countries where the epidemiological features of the disease are different. Background Cancer stem cells represent a population of immature tumor cells found in most solid tumors. Their peculiar features make them ideal models for studying drug resistance and sensitivity. Improving uptake of screening for colorectal cancer: a study on invitation strategies and different test kit use

Objective The aim of this study was to compare the uptake of mail-delivered tests for colorectal cancer screening. We assessed the effect of an advance notification letter and a reminder letter, and analysed the proportion of inappropriately handled tests.
