Bleaching of color of kraft pulp mill effluents and natural organic matter in lakes
2002
In situ changes in the color of lake water and biologically treated kraft pulp mill effluents mixed in lake water were examined in three lakes. In 1.7 m3 enclosures, the color (400700 g Pt·m3) of the mixture of pulp mill effluent and lake water remained similar for 4 months in darkness, whereas exposure to solar radiation resulted in 1742% bleaching of color. During the summer stratification of a humic lake, the color (160 g Pt·m3) of hypolimnetic water remained similar to that found during spring turnover, but the color of epilimnion decreased 13%. The measured rates of photochemical bleaching of color by solar radiation could explain the decrease of epilimnetic color. Attenuation of …
Pelēki tonētu lēcu ietekme uz redzes funkcijām
2017
<title>Selective filters for improvement of color discrimination</title>
2003
Colored filters have been used as possible aids for perception in case of congenital color vision abnormalities. Higher stimulation for L cones in one eye (red filter) and for M cones (green) in other eye acts as a simple method to interfere in human color vision processing. Influence on subjective and objective vision performances as binocular functions, fusion, stereopsis and color vision has been tested. Special colored glasses have been created, taking into account each subjects refraction for distance and tested for the 5 months adaption time. No negative influence on binocular functions, no changes of heterophoria and lowering in fusion ability and stereopsis have been stated due to u…
KOSMOS 2017 Peru Side Experiment: nutrients, phytoplankton abundances, enzyme rates, photophysiology
2022
This data was collected during an short-term incubation experiment in March 2017 that investigated the response of a surface plankton community to upwelling. This experiment was carried in the framework of the SFB754-funded KOSMOS mesocosm study that took place in La Punta, Callao, Peru between February-April 2017. A total of six different treatments were used to disentangle chemical and biological characteristics of deep water that influence surface plankton blooms: 2 different deep water sources with different nutrient concentrations; 3 treatments to distinguish the effects of inorganic nutrients, organic nutrients and deep water microbial populations. Measured variables include inorganic…
Spectroscopie des hexafluorures à nombre impair d'électrons
1995
From a theoretical point of view, a tensorial formalism adapted to the study of molecules or octahedral ions with a half-integer angular momentum has been developed for the first time. We have used here the method of projective representations, more consistent than that of double groups. A complete set of coupling coefficients and formulas, as well as the corresponding computing programs have been elaborated. This has firstly allowed to write a simple model describing the vibronic structure of colored hexafluorides. Then, somme applications of this formalism to the study of rovibronic couplings of XY6 molecules in a fourfold degenerate electronic state have been considered, especially conce…
Iron and pH regulating the photochemical mineralization of dissolved organic carbon
2017
Solar radiation mineralizes dissolved organic matter (DOM) to dissolved inorganic carbon through photochemical reactions (DIC photoproduction) that are influenced by iron (Fe) and pH. This study addressed as to what extent Fe contributes to the optical properties of the chromophoric DOM (CDOM) and DIC photoproduction at different pH values. We created the associations of Fe and DOM (Fe-DOM) that cover the range of loadings of Fe on DOM and pH values found in freshwaters. The introduced Fe enhanced the light absorption by CDOM independent of pH. Simulated solar irradiation decreased the light absorption by CDOM (i.e., caused photobleaching). Fe raised the rate of photobleaching and steepened…
